I've been playing on Ghost Mode (Normal difficulty, minimal HUD) since Tuesday and I'm really enjoying it. I've been downed twice and it definitely gets your heart racing as you fall back. I was also speeding away from a chopper strafing my smoking van at one point. Does being blown up in a vehicle mean instant death? I'll have to watch out for that.

It's meant I've been really efficient about which buchons to target to get to El Sueño, grabbing bonus points and weapon upgrades if they're en route to main missions or major intel. I've also been using my squad more, and even used rebel support (mortar strike against an enemy mortar) for the first time in months.

I'm sure I'll die before finishing it, but if I do I can honestly say I've had a brilliant time with it. It makes GRW into the focused, tense experience it feels like it always should've been. I hope to see more content along these lines in the future.

I play on extreme no hud and it’s soooo much better than playing with hud enabled. Don’t get me wrong when ghost mode first dropped I put my mini map and markers back on but I just couldn’t stick with it like that and after a few K.I.A’s I went back to no hud. I am currently Tier 34 but I’m in the Flo De Oro area and just tried to do the final mission where you have to grab the general and yeah I almost died! I got downed twice and decided to run as far away into as possible until it failed the mission due to “target lost”

No hud, Extreme is the only way to play IMO but there are a select few missions that I am unable to complete in this game with that setting unfortunately.

All in all it’s funny that I find myself encountering a lot less issues with no hud then when I play with it switched on, I think it just makes you a better player and you play it a lot more realistically, ie; cautiously

Ghost mode settings with a more realistic HUD setup (no enemy markers or crosshair mainly) and one of the lower difficulties where the enemies aren't hyper-accurate is a really good way to play, I'm finding. I avoided Extreme in this mode due to having to start with zero upgrades. I'll probably avoid the bullet resistance upgrades in favour of more gadgets and vision enhancements as I think your character has sensible bullet resistance by default on Normal, especially when you take into account the other ways that Ghost Mode and reduced HUD hampers you.

This game isn't designed around 'realism' it's designed around being a game. Play however you like, but you have no right to complain about permadeath if you don't use the system to effect longevity of your character. -- I'm not talking glitches here. I'm talking getting killed by higher level opponents because you think explosive resistance isn't realistic.

Fact is such things are, not as super armour, but that your character reacts to proximity damage from explosions better than being shell shocked. Or Bullet resistance, instead of freaking out you're being shot at, you are more assertive under fire.

These skills are not armouring skills. It's just the game active way to convey whether or not you cope under fire. No bullet resistance and you can notice the stun effect being fired at has on you. It's a game.

Believe me. 'Realistically' being shot, even if it doesn't kill you, will take you out of the game. Because wounds are threatening, shock from penetration trauma is real, it's disorienting and if not treated fast, scepticima and blood poisoning is deadly. Being shot by military rounds is like being slammed by a mack truck in a bar fight. Your first thought is, "why is there a mack track in a God fer damned bar anyway!?" Then you realise you've been shot and then you need to get out if the fire, so you can treat it and it's urgent. Your every bit of strength is spent fighting down panic as the effects of bullet damage sap you physically. -- Even after you or a mate treats the wound; you know you have 9hrs to get real help. You know about the visible wound, but bullets do more damage than just puncture you. The force damages organs, can even cause them fail or improperly function, flutter, etc.. This is also true even if the bullet didn't penetrate you.

    That's realism.

I love everything about ghost mode except the permadeath. A game as big and open ended as this can't be trusted to work perfectly ALL the time. I'm more afraid of random enemy spawns and weird **** happening than enemies themselves. I just think an easy fix would be to have the option that each zone gives you a sort of "milestone" save or something like that. - Also a HUD setup that caters to a hardcore crowd would also be really great. When playing with no hud I cant tell what grenade i have equipped or if I have my grenade launcher equipped. A compass or somethign that lets me and my teammates have some form of reference when talking would be nice as well.

Next you are going to tell me that in real life my teammates can not see an enemy by the stack of tires when there is a wall between us or we are climbing up a hill?... Blasphemy!

There are solutions to saving your character progress to create a sort of milestone mechanic. ....although much easier on PS4 and PC. On XB1 it's apparently more complicated.

As for the HUD issue, there are already options available to customize what you can and can't see. .....ammo, weapons, etc. being one of them. It's not an all or nothing affair.

The compass has been suggested numerous times and I too wish it were an option. They implemented it for Ghost War but not GRW. .....a shame really.

Huh? How'd you even get this from anything I said. Ya zigged somewhere..

Anyway. Dunno about you, but my squad never shut up about enemies next to a stack of tyres..

When I wrote that post, my point was, all this talk about "realism" throughout the forums is delusional. If this game was properly realistic, no one would play it. -- proof a la reception of GM.

In fact, I'm even unclear what is the point of GM if you're circumventing permadeath? May as well play normal mode.

I'm at the point now with Ghost Mode. that I'm wondering if all the time I put into is proportional to this "Exo Suit" reward, that's just a swagger item with limited customization options and where the chest piece makes zero sense design wise. Like where do my magazines come from? do they appear/disappear from a magical vortex along with my hopes and dreams of this game redeeming itself one day? Also the Exo Legs/Pants, overall instead of giving us the option to change the "Black pants" we're only given the ability to change the Exo parts themselves form the standard color to some swagger Blue/Steel and Black/Gold nonsense. The whole Exo parts themselves could have been a neutral color like black or something and that way those that want to can still have camouflage pattern for the clothing underneath.

As far as losing progress; I'm fine with losing gear and skills, but people that have been Killed/Removed from the map, should stay that way, just like how the Exo Suit progress keeps track of who's been cleared. Overall Ghost Mode is a small step in the right direction, but the Exo suit as of right now is just a "oh look at me, status item".

My whole team is using the Exo-suit. I guess if you watch anime or play games like Halo, you can make up some great character looks; because you have plenty of examples. Because if the Exo-suit I actually found a use for the Chopper Helmet, Scout headset, Face protection, etc.. things I wouldn't ordinarily use.

I reckon, at least for XBOX, the team should do some collaborative work with 343i and get some unique Exo-suit designs. The Halo era is the 24th Century, but some of it's roots are in the coming decade. 343i will never do anything about that because the games take place, far in the future. However, it could be a cool thing to explore as platform specific DLC. I know I'd buy it.

Lol! To think.. Mjolnir armour began as a carry suit and 1500yrs later are only just getting jump packs. For a lot of reasons that makes sense to me.
