You can ask that same question of any of the classes sans hybrids. As they're the only heros that are actually fleshed out mechanically. Probably at the beginning it was:
Vanguards=simple easy to pick up starter heros.
heavies=harder to kill because more health and more defensive attributes.
Assassins=agile aggressors with poor defense.
hybrids=unique.
But due to how the game currently plays everything is everywhere. Conq is the defensive hero but he can go toe to toe and be aggressive just like an assassin. The game is too basic to justify actual classes. They tried making them as different as possible by having unrealistic numbers on important basic attributes such as attack speed and dodge recoveries. At this point the only really good way to have functional classes whilst making each hero a viable choice in 1v1 and team modes is to triple down on feats.
Meaning feats would have to become stronger and more unique. Have feats only available to that class type AND then a few feats specific to that specific hero.

Every assa main will say now but we don't have static guard well its not that big problem coz everyone switching guards constantly so its harder only on specific situations. Dodges deflects and speed It's even bigger compensation for assa. Quite frankly you can't say that assassins have poor deff coz its not true.

Wtf man did you played this game? They dont have HA? Zerk has HA on every move. Shaman has like longest throw distance and can pin you on the ground and bite. And those are just samples. Pls install game play it then you can comment.
