Why can't we toggle permadeath but keep the other features?

-or, rather, why can't we play a normal non permadeath game and toggle single weapon, friendly fire and switch-on-ammobox just like we can customize our hud options?

The more modular the options the better. What's wrong with letting people fully taylor their experience?

Because Ghost Mode is supposed to be a hardcore challenge. I actually like the fact we have permadeath, because it forces you to play more carefully.

Too bad we have a hundred other gameplay glitches that could kill us REGARDLESS of how carefully we play the game.

On my way down the hill to free Amaru, I dropped out the bottom of the map... that's is why we need this.

I've always been an advocate of providing more options in this game for that exact reason. .....to allow players to tailor the game to fit their own playstyle. ...and for the most part, I think Ubi achieved that to some degree with the core gameplay. Something Ubi promoted in their vision all through development.

These are are all features that should be options in the main game. I can appreciate Ubi trying to provide a new way to play with new rewards, but making "permadeath" the backbone of that new mode was a mistake IMO. For one, permadeath came as surprise to more than a few of us in the community as we never thought of it as a highly requested feature up to this point. Second, GRW has some well known glitches and "quirky" gameplay mechanics that can cause players to die and/or lead to players becoming "stuck". .....inevitably leading to a forced suicide to get out of their predicament.

In the main game, the second issue is merely an inconvenience. In Ghost Mode, those issues can be game breaking as they lead to complete reset of your character. Even with relatively rare glitches, it only takes one to completely ruin days, weeks or even months of progress for a player. ......not what I consider fun or challenging. .....just frustrating. There's even a recent post by a community member who has already experienced the long known "fall through map" bug while playing this mode. I suspect we will hear similar testimonies in the weeks after Ghost Mode becomes available to all on 7/31.

All of these popular requested features were nearly always pitched as "options" in the core game rather than forced features. They should have at least made them all available in the main game for those that don't wish to partake in a "permadeath challenge" but still wanted to use them.

"Permadeath" does little to change any of the actual gameplay in GRW for me other than death. However, things like one primary, FF, ammo management/restrictions and playing lone wolf do.
....but even with those features we still have silly mechanics like the ability to vacuum up ammo from dead bodies, etc. which makes the point of a "realistic reload" basically moot. ....hardly my idea of "hardcore" but that's just another term that means different things to different people.

I'm going to try a Ghost Mode playthrough but if I experience a glitch while playing, that will likely be it for me.

Because they want you to get frustrated with collecting items so you will spend money in the store to unlock them.

Superb post. It sums up everything.

The imposed limitations that ghost mode entails are THE WAY to make a game harder/more challenging without getting into the artificial difficulty of Tier One mode. It is just very sad that they are attached to permadeath, especially in a game that has so many quirky glitches and is SO LONG.

All they needed to do was add modular options, and maybe keep Ghost mode tied to a fancy achievement, so that you could pick it at the beggining and maybe turn it off if you wanted, without the ability to go back to it. Kinda like the hardcore mode in Fallout 4 or Ironman in XCOM.

So, Ubi, pretty please with sugar on top, give us more modular options please, and dont bundle them up!

Since we're at it, what if marking only worked on 2D but not 3D? (eg.: 2D vs 3D spotting in battlefield games)

I got kind of excited for Ghost Mode until I heard the bit about permadeath. Even on normal or easy deaths are often unavoidable and have nothing to do with skill.

    Exactly!

I would like Ghost mode to have an on/off switch for each component, rather than a bundle, especially the permadeath.
