    Hello all.

I've had FB for a while now, and have never been able to fly any of the 109's, 190's, Ju87-88's. The problem is on take-off, i push the throttle to about 20% and the engine overheats, then is "inoperable ." I know that this was a great fighter of the war and although take-off was somewhat difficult, this was definately NOT the case on take-off. I've uninstalled and reinstalled many many many many times and have looked at airwarfare.com for correct patching sequence. As i said earlier i've had the game for a while now so it's actually been on 2 different computers also. Games are, IL-2 Gold pack, Pacific Fighters, and 1946. I was hoping 1946 would fix this but realize this is an isolated issue. ANY advise or help would be much obliged. HALF THE FUN OF THE GAME IS MISSING FOR ME SIMPLY BECAUSE I CANT FLY ANY OF THE GERMAN PLANES less the bi-planes and jets .

    please help,
    pilot in distress

Could you post a track of yourself doing this? That might be helpful.

Do you engage MW50 or other engine boost prior to throttling up? Do you enable manual prop pitch prior to throttling up?

BTW: Not to be an *** but this thread should probably be in community help or general discussion and not Oleg's Ready Room. You might get a better response if it were in the right location.

Ermm...press W. The universal key for boost

Don't engage it unless the throttle/revs are low. But even then you should not burn out the engine for a few minutes.

We need a track. Can't do anything more till we see what you're doing.

When your engine power is below 100% and engine revs are below 2600rpm you can safely engage/disengage the MW50 on so equipped planes (Bf109G6/AS, G10, G14, K4, FW190D9'45, Ta152C & H)

    rgr that.

I believe i've found the problem and i feel so so tiny because i wasnt doing 1 thing. For PP you have to hit shift+0 two times to get it to switch over to auto PP. I did this and flew just fine. i dont know why but the 190 and JU's do not have this feature and are taking off just fine also. Thanx all for the help.

    this will perhaps explain it:

for all piston engined planes except:
    Ki-27
    J8A
    TB-3s
    Fw190 in auto mode
Spitfire IX and VIII in auto mode
Bf109, Bf110,Do335,Ta152C in manual and auto mode:
the prop pitch in game is controlling the engine revolutions - so 100% pitch here means you allow the egnine to run at max rpm if enough throttle/power is available.
in combat you shoud fly alwasys with 100%.
to lower your pitch is actually only necesarry if you want realy fly slow (that your comrades or the AI can close formation or you want safe fuel) , than you have to reduce the pitch like the throttle. same % rate or pitch 10% more than the throttle % is a good solution.

also using full throttle and useing only 90-95% pitch can reduce the overhat chance - usefull in some planes like the Tempest or the Corsair and Hellcat. that doesnt harm your speed/climb much, if at all !

very few planes in game are overrev in a power dive (full power, 100% pitch) - IIRC that are the Cr.42, G.50, Mc.200, Fw190A/F in manual mode, Fw190D/Ta152H, the Brewsters(not sure about that , may have changed in a patch)

    Fw190 in auto mode
Spitfire IX and VIII in auto mode
    Bf109, Bf110,Do335,Ta152C in auto mode:
have a one lever system, if you control the throttle, the pitch is automaticly also controled

    Bf109, Bf110,Do335,Ta152C in manual mode:
thats totaly different, here you control the propeller pitch direclty ! no automatik will keep the rpm in a "good" condition. it brings you no benefit to use this manual settings anymore (there was a time ). so, dont bother it

    the
    Ki-27
    J8A
    TB-3s:
have fixed propellers, so nothing to control there

So wait....your plane starts off on manual pitch mode? That shouldn't be....

Make sure you have prop pitch set to 100% or automatic (Shift-0) otherwise you'll overheat and blow your engine real fast or turn OFF complex engine management...
