They way to counter extreme toxicity is not with an extreme solution

Ubisoft, what is going on? Why is anyone ever being banned for any kind of speech? By banning players for anything other than cheating, you're just going to bring hate on yourself and frustration from players that are being banned.

Why is this strange ban system in place? Why must you force people to align to your moral code? If you're banning people for saying anything, it can easily be viewed as an excessive suppression of freedom of speech.

Why would a traditional or augmented chat filter not have worked? If you just made it so an entire message would not show up when someone typed something toxic (or by Ubisofts standards, something a small child wouldn't say even though it's an M rated game) the problem is solved. No bans, no frustration, no freedom of speech suppression. Add to that the ability to disable the filter so I can see what everyone says because I do not get offended by words and bam. Perfect. You could even replace the person's message with *W0ke.'s message has been censored for containing a toxic word* so people know he said something, but probably something people don't care about.

I seriously do not understand the existing system. It would have been better, simpler, quicker and more intelligent to just add a filter system. I criticize Ubisofts decision on this to fullest extent and urge them to scrap it and go with a more traditional solution. Banning should be for cheaters alone.

Just as a side note, I have not been banned for toxicity ever. I am frustrated with seeing less aware players being baited into getting banned and the current implementation is radically against any standards that should be reserved for the protection of freedom of speech. I do want the option to bleep messages but bans for speech are just insane.

I forgot to mention that the worst thing about banning people in Siege is that the words have not been clearly listed as restricted, like they are in every other game.

Why are people so concerned about wanting to be able to talk hatefully in game? If you aren't coordinating attack/defense, giving call-outs, or congratulating a teammate on a good play/attempt, there's no reason to talk. If you want to talk, that's what Facebook, Snapchat, and all that other social media crap is for.

Furthermore, "freedom of speech" does not mean you are free from consequences. You can't just go to school/work and cuss your teachers/boss without repercussions. The same applies elsewhere. If you feel the need to spout off hatefully, maybe you should see a therapist.

@up maybe we don't like social media crap. And Op is right. And we don't believe in prozac therapy.

It's not just that though. Their new system gets triggered regardless of context, if people are to be trusted. British words like sni(gg)er (Laughing in a scornful way) also trigger their system.

Then you're clearly confused. Rainbow Six is a video game, to PLAY. It's not an outlet for TALK....especially hateful talk. That said, there are 3 reasons to talk in this game: coordinate attack/defense, give call-outs, and congratulate a teammate on a good play/attempt. If you aren't doing one of those things, you're in the wrong place.

If they allow things that are even remotely close, people will use that to exploit. The solution: shut up and play. Simple as that. Refer to my earlier post about the only things worth saying in game.

I go into casual matches to have fun, mess around and get to know people. I save that tactical stuff for ranked. A auto-ban system that bans regardless of context is the most idiotic thing I've ever seen in my 18 years of gaming. Not everyone knows every slang word in existance. If I hadn't decided to look at the forums today I would've 100% have fallen for the Coon Troll (People asking for Cartman's superhero name) going around right now.
