Simple, just let us pick our hero before we search a match. So your algorithm should match much better or not?
Just unlocked one of the season pass chars and played a bit. Rly like him and wanna have some fun... BUT nearly every round i search there are rep 50s or simply 3-4 guys with max gear. Very nice fightin them with gear 12, rly. Especially them with rage-gear, rly fun.
If there would be a step to choose your hero befor the search, playing a new hero would be much more fun. And another advantage would be to see the choosen hero and Rep IN THE LOBBY, so you can see when the loosing team picks MAIN CHARS because they wanna f.up the newbie heroes...
I guess this will not be read by the devs anyway, but worth a try...
I hate being this person but I feel like it should be mentioned.
There's a training mode, hero "how-to-play" videos, and bot practice to help you learn these things. These give you a good feel for how the character should flow. After you gain your own skill, then you learn against other players to improve on your overall skills.
Learning a new character is pretty simple. You pick up a couple things first that you like/that work, then figure out your punishes from different things.
I'd say about 60% of For Honor is learning how to fight your opponent rather than how to play your own character.
I think is a good idea. I will add another Idea.
4v4 Modes with Single Pick Heros.
Its just no fun if you have 2-4 Centurions, Shamans or Conquerer bashing, kicking and stunning you to dead. Sure its 4v4 and if you fight alone against more then 2 enemys its my own fault. But this constant spam is cancerous as f...
The same with feats. Some feats are so OP with ONE HIT kill. Or spam.......AGAIN. Lawdaddy for example. AC-130 Style.
Well, enough flaming.
I really think that Single Pick Heros and the Matchmacking based on the Hero (LVL) you play, not the Main LvL would be the best way to make a good balanced game.
But that is my opinion.
Cheers Lads
So, let's say you are a Top 5% Player. You pick up a new Character, but you still know how the game works very well. Should Matchmaking put you into Games with lower skilled people? Should it search (probably very long) for players on your skill level who also picked a less geared Character?
Btw you can just do Duel or Bot Matches when picking up a new Character. When you get to purple Gear you are good to go against full Gear guys, the difference is marginal.
I like the idea of Single Pick - but not everyone can play 4+ Characters on the same skill level. Would be veeery hard to balance skill-wise imo.
Youre right with the top 5% problem, but thats only 1 of many searching desicions i guess.
I dont say only gear should matter, i say if you pick your hero first, the matching would probably be a lot better. Especially when someone decides to fight next round with his main char rep 50.
THATs my point, not only gear should matter, but if the algorythm has your choice before the matching, do you rly think it will be worse than now??
Because of the single pick idea, yeah thats a point. But i played last round (just yet) against 4 centurions and it was a hell of a fun... (sarcasm!)
they had no skill in 1vs1 but bunched us all the time... rly funny... not

Also, picking your character before searching for lobbies would make the search very complicated as it would have to consider your skill level and reputation (two current factors) but also what character you choose. If 4 people decided to pick a certain character because that is their main, 2 of them at least have to keep searching for new lobbies. As a further consequence a lot of lobbies will remain with seats untaken and start the game with bots. Since you don't get the feedback what characters you could choose to get a spot quickly in a game there is a good chance that it comes down to exactly like this. That is a terrible idea. Especially when at times people feel that they want to play some character for example try them out after a rework and how they work now in dominion, they most likely can't and that sucks. It also sucks for people that only play one or a couple of heroes and cannot switch to whatever they like to play.
I really don't see the problem with multiple similar picks. The best dominion teams thrive from their diversity and availability of good and useful movesets. Partys of all the same characters get usually stomped upon since it is easy to adapt to that and there is less likely as good a synergy than compared to other mixed varieties. This is why I personally pick my hero in a lot of cases depending on what my mates choose and what most likely would help the team out best on the next map. And because a lot of people take their time in the lobby with picking a char as well I believe that they often kind of behave the same as I.
Centurion squads,.. hah. They are slow, don't have that much health and are short ranged hence very much prone to classes that control masses better than them. Up close they can be dangerous no doubt, but nah - a half decent team should be able to pick them apart. Besides, I really Ioved the moments whenever an entire Highlander Squad was formed - it was always such a goofy experience (and that refers expecially to the time before his buff).
I get that seeing too many of the same heroes on the opposing team or sometimes even on your own, can be a sore sight, but honestely for me I know that it is in most cases only temporary. If I don't like a lobby I carry on and search for another.
What also happens after you match with other players with a low level character and then want to switch to one of your mains in the next matches?
Edit:
And btw. Sure gear is a factor, As Charmzzz said already once you have purple gear you are absolutely good to go. But seriously even with lower level gear you can already invest into some important stats and be totally viable. Just go for defence penetration, max this one out for a sneeze of steel invested and for the rest try to get some of the fine "balanced" gear pieces that really shine at low levels and always max them out right away. Then make sure to have some revenge gain and possibly some revenge defence while having normal defence above 0 at all times and you're probably pretty much good to go. Any further increase in attack will make it more likely that you pass on some little bit of extra damage or at least penetrate whatever defence value those 180ers run around with. And as an additional hint: Those low level 0 0 + gear pieces can also be much better utilized at low levels than those at later stages.
i don't think the picks are the problem, the problem is how stun works in fights, after you are already CCed you shouldn't eat another CC for example if someone hits you with a heavy and you are in heavy attack pause animations you shoulndn't eat any of the other character CC, except heavy character long cast CC like shugoki or lawbringer flip (not push) since without it that would leave them really weak, the rest of the cast can have a "go back" animation kinda like when you try to grab a character that is on revenge + is attacking.Originally Posted by Just_Rosti Go to original post

I see your point, BUT the single pick was not my original ideaI just talked about picking your hero before the search, not that it has to be single pick!
Because of the gear: I simply dont want to grind against bots only to have a nice PvP gear and why should i? There are much opponents out there with no high lvl gear, i see it every time in fights. I dont say put the importance of gear above other factors, just that its a point.
