GRW mammoth Installation
Well, looking at my (first part) GRW download size - 67GB! meaning it will be ~2 days download for my ~7Mbit ADSL line.
I wonder how much is the complete Gold Edition download size?
Lemme guess it will be a week until all files are in?
There are 15 DLC packs n patches including the season pass..
I remember times when even Ubi games had been compressed installation files (for download) drastically cutting download time and package size.
Why is this no longer the case? any valid reasons? I think the download size/time could be halved if compressed properly.
Your thoughts appreciated...
Sometimes I wonder. How come you gamers can really just blurt things out outside your knowledge on the subject?Originally Posted by Butcherbird59 Go to original post
Your bolded part there is so wrong on so many level that I don't even know where to start explaining and apparently it is more baffling than GRW's colossal data and update size.
First off, just like someone said there. 20GB of data is normal for big games like this. Secondly, initial installation data is around 45 GB. Anything more than that is the total size accumulated coming from updates sent out so far, which should be around 65-66GB.
There are only 2 major DLC. Each takes somewhere around 1.2GB-2GB to download. Can't remember the specific size.
The rest of the optionally downloadable contents are redeemable items from Season Pass exclusive, Deluxe exclusive, and Pre-order exclusive items which the size are ranging around 15MB, with exception of Peruvian Connection and Unidad Conspiracy missions that may come with larger MB. There's less than 15 DLC in total.
Season Pass itself only serve as a license key item that the download size should be really small.
Gold Edition only contains the game and Season Pass. And Season Pass is only there to be your license of ownership of the bulk of items promised from it.
So no, your download wouldn't extend to a week long. You will download 4GB-5GB extra and that if you are willing to download them.

it's not about the size of the game on disk once installed - example FC4 Deluxe is ~36GB on disk installed about half the size of GRW ..
but...when I zip up the FC4 folder it saves 11% hence 3.84GB! ...for GRW this would mean a significantly bigger saving IF the installation files would be packed.
my bolded part was a question! but good to read it's not like it was in FC4 where you had to download all season pass DLCs - btw, you missed the topic of this thread too.Originally Posted by Kane_sg Go to original post
LOL; I think we've all been there, sometimes more then once ...Originally Posted by GiveMeTactical Go to original post
My only thoughts are that the file formats used are already compressed, and compressing them further may not be worthwhile. Rather like the GIF or JPEG format, but I don't know.Originally Posted by Butcherbird59 Go to original post
Okay, I'll see how much "air" is still left after the game is all in.. but it takes another 10 hours until finished..Originally Posted by Edgemoor Go to original post
If I would be on Gigabit speed I woudn't care but .. this is a real P*I*A
I can relate to that. But it seems most games are well over 20gb now. At one point the scandal was getting 5 1.44mb floppy disks ....Originally Posted by Butcherbird59 Go to original post
Be interested to know what you find.
Well my findings:Originally Posted by Edgemoor Go to original post
Download size 67GB and compressing the installed GRW folder (74GB) gives me 66GB hence ~1GB slack - not too bad but still 1024MB wasted. Compare this to floppies it's a hell of a lot, no?
Accomplished my first mission - no animals anywhere? (not talking farm animals but predators) very unexciting! will take some time until I am into it...
Graphics quality is a good step up especially playing in 4K resolution it really shows - so far all good!
