I have an ATI radeon 9200 with 128mb on board ram. I also have a 1.3ghz CPU, and 768 RAM. I'm only getting 10-15 fps in game performance.
My video game settings are medimum for most areas, I tried to change them to low and was still getting the same performance. I'm running in Open GL mode. My screen reselution is set to 1024x768x32. I'm using a 19" flat screen monitor.
Also the in game shadows have a checker board appearance. Is there a way to correct that as well?
Does anyone have any ideas on how to increase my fps preformance? Any help is greatly appreicated. Thank you.

The only idea I have is to go to 800X600 screen resolution. And in your FB folder there is an icon labled IL2Setup. Open it up and click on the Video tab. In the drop down box beside of Settings, choose Custom. In the drop down box beside of Texture Mipmap Filtering, choose Bilinear. And in the drop down box beside of Texture Compression, choose S3TC. In the next section, only "Use Vertex Arrays" should be checked. In the next section, Disable All, Clip Hint, Use Palette, and Texture Anisotropic Extension should be unchecked.
Next under the Sound tab, in the drop down box beside of Settings, choose Custom. Beside of Playback Channels, choose 16. Speaker type should be Default. Beside of 3D engine mode, choose Minimal. Beside Sampling Rate, choose 22050. Whatever is left, leave alone.
This is about all I can think of given the components of your rig. If you give these settings a shot, please post back and let me know if they were helpful.
Btw, I appreciate your hard work on the missions you create. I have flown many of them and they all have been great fun.

Quazi,
Thank you very much for the reply. I used the settings you gave me and the fps did improve, however the graphics did not look good at all.
If I increase the RAM and get a newer video card...would that help my fps situation? The CPU is max for my type motherboard.
I'm using a soundblaster live sound card...is that a good enough card?
Thanks.

An Audigy 2 sound card would give you an incredible bump in fr's because it has its' own APU to process the ingame sounds. This allows the CPU cycles that were decidicating themselves to ingame sounds to be used to run the sim. I gained 8 fps across the board when I installed an Audigy 2 in my Dell 4550 running a 2.4GHz processor. Not sure if you would do that well, but then again, not sure that you wouldn't do better. I do know without a doubt that your fr's will pick up substancially.
Going to a full GB of memory would probably be helpful. Probably more so if you cpu were a bit stronger. But real helpful nonetheless.
If you have an AGP slot, and I am saying this because the 9200 comes in PCI also, then a 9700Pro (given the speed of your cpu) would be a big jump and bump I would think. Maybe even a 9800Pro. You would be going from a 4 pixel pipelined card to an 8 pixel pipelined card which will give you better gameplay. These 9800Pros can be had for aound $60 to $80 on eBay. I have purchased many, many used cards from sellers on eBay without issue. Just make sure they have had many transactions and a high feedback rating and you should be fine.
My guess, and I am emphasizing a "guess" here D, is that with all the upgrades mentioned above, you could possibly see a 10 to 15 fps increase across the board throught the game. Pretty substancial given the $100 to $150 it would take for a vanilla Audigy 2 Value, a 9800Pro, and another 268Mb memory, (which btw can also be had real cheap on eBay also).
Oh, and btw, 1024X768 with a little eye candy would be very possible, so the game sure would look better. HEHE
