The worst thing is that I had this badass map planned involving a crashed player fighting through an NVA base culminating in a “boss fight” against an NVA Heavy before escaping in a stolen helo... but those ambitions were dashed when I found out that Ubi only put the most basic of the basic HoD enemies in 😡
I noticed this as well. As well, we only got non-combat animals, no crocodile and no panther. I'm surprised at the panther, since I'd assume it'd be pretty much the same as the cougar, but the crocodile makes me think. I wonder if they can't/its prohibitively complicated to add enemies with new details or AI to the editor. Because the NVA and Vietcong guys are really just the same model swaps as the rest of the non-cultist enemies. Notice the heavy gunner also is only available as a cultist, even before this update, and it's probably because of his helmet. I recall that the NVA one didn't even have a helmet, so the difference might make it complicated to add in for some reason. I don't know why it would be complicated to swap different assault rifles or sniper rifles either, but maybe now that the multiplayer has been overhauled and the lobby system is out, they'll have some time for us poor SP folks.
It was probably done because they have easy premade archetypes of AI for the editor. The enemies that they did add have the same weapons as the original cultists, so why create new ones just for the viet cong (mp40 guy, SVD guy, and the heavy had a slightly different M60). I guess if they add some guys with AK47s instead of ARCs then they'd have to add versions of cultists with ak47s? Either way if we got the remaining NVA and Viet Cong enemy types with the modern weapons that'd be something.
This. I finally come back to the game after about a month of putting it down, and I'm excited to be able theme natural maps outside of North America. As far as I saw they only added a cow and a pig lol. Don't get me wrong these new kill/damage zones and weapons are great, but for people like me who want to be able to make beautiful nature-scapes the animal selection feels extremely limited. I wish we had the option to select the weapon each guy uses, even if we had to stay in the same class or it was restricted to being cosmetic. Also, I forgot one of the NVA uses the MP40.
