The ultimate list of game mode suggestions
Every now and then a suggestion for a new game mode pops up, gathers some interest (hopefully) and then drowns in the sea of threads. This is of course a shame in itself, but with an active discussion about For Honor’s game modes and what this game could be I think it’s important to highlight the different suggestions that creative members of this community have put forward. This is an attempt to create a list of said suggestions.
1v2 mode
1v2 mode with 3 players total. The players are placed into teams with 1 player on one team and 2 on the other (duh). After each round, the players are cycled so that each player gets to be the lone player twice per match (6 rounds total). The winner is the player with the most takedowns (or the least deaths).
Suggested by RLTygurr
3v1 – king mode
A 3v1 mode where you as the king fight multiple opponents off with the only goal of remaining king for as long as possible, and when killed the person that landed the killing blow would become the new king, you would respawn and try to kill him, and the person who has the most time as king when the timer runs out would be the winner.
Suggested by nyrue
3v3 – Gang fight
You and your 3 team mates spawn side by side, opposite the enemy team, set in an outdoor courtyard or indoors like the viking mead hall, maybe with some chairs and tables tipped on their sides for dramatic effect.
3 minute rounds, best of 3 rounds. Infinite respawn like dance of death, but the difference is the match always goes to timer. The "gang" with the most kills allotted at the end of that round wins the round. Gear stats off.

Arena
8 player Elimination/FFA with shrinking (with traps) map.
Suggested by Lexxx2013
Arena
A mix of duel and skirmish. 8 players start in pairs of two each, in 4 closed rooms connected to a big main area. Once each pair has a player winner, he can open the door via slow 5 sec switch or whatever to enter the main area and face the other winners. Gear stats off.

Assault/Escort
This game mode would consist of attacking and defending a number of points. Escort does not make sense here, however I mention it to refer to the Overwatch mode. Assault refers to the mode in Unreal Tournament.
Players are tasked with attacking/defending a set of 3 points. Time ticks down and stops when the attackers successfully take all of the objectives or time runs out. At the end of a round the attackers and defenders switch roles. The winner is decided by who progresses further in less time.

Bodycount
The game mode is simple. Three spawning points on the map dish out NPCs that must be killed to harvest "trophies" from to take back to your post to offer up as proof of your prowess. These trophies can be picked up by killing the one carrying them too, albeit at a fraction.
Example: I take 3 trophies worth 30 points and get killed, the trophies dropped should be say -30%. The goal there is to give more of an incentive to farm your own and use combat as a way to deny points rather than stack them. Also, you should be able to steal trophies from the enemies main base, however to do so, the area around cannot be contested otherwise no points can be deposited or withdrawn.

Capture the flag
Basic CTF.
There would need to be some rules though. Slower moving flag carriers, perhaps a little buff in defensive stats if you carry as well.

Colosseum game mode
In this game mode, both teams choose a player to be in the arena where they'll have a 1v1 fight. Whoever loses is eliminated, and the winner (who stays at whatever hp level they had when their fight ended) fights another person from the losing team. This continues until all 4 players from a team have been eliminated.
There could be traps or something that the players on standby can occasionally use while watching the fight to subtly influence the match. Maybe they can give a feat or something, haven't thought that out yet.

Faction warfare (an attempt to make the faction war an actual game mode)
You chose your faction side and join specific teams that are like clans, and then attack regions in need of support or territorial gains.
Currently in FH, we just place "ASSETS" in territories that are either losing or gaining. But we don't actually go there to fight ourselves. When you attack an area, with no opponents waiting in the lobby you'll fight against the AI defenses. You keep attacking the area until it is captured and belongs to your faction.

Faction War Mode (an attempt to make the faction war more interesting by turning it into a game mode, there is a lot more to read in the thread)
The mode should be something like an actual battlefield, a very large map with three territories. Since we have three territories we should have 3 teams of 4 to represent each faction (but the core game of 2 teams would work too I suppose but be 6v6 for more fun!) and of course you could still play as any hero.
The gameplay should be something reminiscent of Control where each team needs to capture and hold the other enemies base points that spawn in different areas that lasts for let’s say 1-2 minutes after it is secured by a team to gather points while fighting through scores of lesser enemies at each stronghold. Clear the stronghold and hold back soldiers and Hero’s to gain capture points. Like any control game mode, you have to stay on the point to gain Points and leaving the area or having your team killed will turn over the capture. This would make for interesting gameplay as you could team up with a faction to overpower another and then fight the other faction you allied with for base control (if done in a 4v4v4 format) or just all-out war over an enemy base. At the end of the round, you would eliminate all players on the other side and the team with the most capture points wins the Faction battle.

Flagmageddon (the best mode pitch I have ever seen)
Basically CTF, but with moving return zones, AI defenders and LEGO on an awesome map.

Gladiator mode
4-player matches like Brawl but FFA.

Gradually revealed team mode on large map with FoW

Honor duels
To satisfy the players who want nothing more than 1 vs 1 duels with 4 vs 4 players. In a lobby players can choose who they want to challenge by tagging an opponent. Once challenged, the opponent can choose to accept or deny. If none can be determined, then the challengers are randomized.
When match starts, all players are in one large arena and the first pair of fighters are in the fighting area where everyone else is on the sidelines watching. Once the match is over, it goes to the next set of fighters. These will probably have to be maxed at 3 round matches instead of 5. The team with the most wins is the winning team. If it's a draw, then a final round pitting the best fighter from each team to a duel.
No environmental hazards to kill opponents. No revenge or gear stats.
Players on the sidelines can't do any emotes. That would be disrespectful to the fighters and a distraction. Until the round is over, then emotes will be active.

Horde mode
A basic horde mode.
Suggested by ipm204, Koala_Kombat
Invasion mode
Dominion but with up to 30 players in each team. 3 spawn points per team. Up to 6 capture points. Bigger maps.
Suggested by DarkstarQc
King of the hill
4 player FFA style game, or a 4 v 4 game.
Because turtling seems to be an issue, and to prevent warlords and conquerors from dominating, have the hill apply debuff's so that it's harder to defend.
The hill could change locations throughout the match. as a team gains more and more score, the hill gets closer and closer to their home spawn. This will encourage teams that want to win to remain on the hill and not branch out for pickoffs. So i guess my game mode is almost like a tug of war/king of the hill blend. This would be geared more for 4 v 4 modes.

Manhunt
-free for all or team based
-no abilities
-no healing
-smaller map (at least smaller than dominion / skirmish; but bigger than duel maps)
Every player starts with a bounty of 1 point which is indicated above the health bar as a +1. So if someone kills you he or she gets 1 point which gets added to his or her +1. Now they have a bounty of 2 on their head. If you manage to kill him or her you will get 2 points. If you die you'll lose your points. If you execute someone you'll get a 2x bonus for the next kill. So a bounty of 5 counts as a bounty of 10. 1 minute before the round ends everyone can see their opponents through walls and on the minimap. The player with the highest bounty on his head gets a movement debuff, so he can't sprint (to prevent people from buying time with run away tactics).

Massive all out battle mode
Instead of just four heroes per team there were 10 or 15. Just have a massive battle, maybe with objectives to hold or just a slayer mode. I could picture this on a map where, instead of a fort or castle/temple, it's just a big field with mountains of bodies of fallen soldiers.

MOBA mode
4v4. Three lanes. Inspired by League of Legends.
Suggested by NeoVidia
Open war
Players start with 3 respawns, and the team with the last players standing wins the match? also there should be some trait system especially designed for this game mode. 20v20 or something like this, even bigger if its possible.
Suggested by Diuparneus
Orbs
When you kill people, They drop an orb, and you have to pick it up, and drop it in the objective. If you die while having someone's orb, the person who kills you gets 2, from the one you killed plus yours, (all you have to do to receive the points is run inside the circle somewhere in the map) max score can be maybe 50? And every 1 minute the objective rotates to certain places. If you see a blue orb (meaning its ally) you can pick it up, it doesn't go toward a point, but you pick it up ensuring the enemy doesn't get it. I think 5 seconds respawn time is perfect.

Raid
"Raid" is a 2 or 4-player coop where just like in the campaign except possibly for higher number of steel or/and higher random gear or weapon piece which is obviously supposed to be really hard to achieve. Which means there's always level 3 bots (or a higher difficultly for these bots) fighting and yes there should be bosses in this game mode. Bosses like in the campaign which obviously are ridiculous to put down alone (If you fought them in realistic mode anyway) and have their own abilities and obviously revenge with a higher health pool. I think this would make a great game mode and would also be very interesting to have a realistic mode with this as well which is for increased loot if won and more bosses. Almost forgot to add that this would also be extremely fun if we were to add the danger zones of incoming arrows and catapults as well to this. This is meant to be hard, not something to win every time you play in this mode.
Suggested by KingAtlas123
Raid boss mode
The raid is PvE with 8 players and has 3 waves of ai fighters that are based off of the legendary warriors faction. Each wave has more and stronger enemies for players to fight. Big boss fight at the end.
Suggested by pikachulovr
Rescue
"Rescue" is a 4v4 match where the attackers are trying to save their people from being captive. The defenders are given the mounted archer weapons we've seen in the campaign except with one arrow and either a 10 or 15 second reload time which the attackers can roll through. The attackers need to cap 3 points and are limited on lives, but are assisted with captains to join them in this fight. They can't cap three points right away and must capture one at a time. Each caped point gives them some extra lives.
Suggested by KingAtlas123
Superboss
Team mode vs AI. Fighting against minions, minibosses and a superboss at the same time.
Suggested by scipio24
Total War
Simple mode, an open battle, large map. Army vs Army. The goal is to kill as many soldiers as you can to get (again) a score. Killing other players will not score for the team, otherwise it will give personal score (more xp for you if you kill other playes).

VS/Horde mode
2 teams of 4 players in a big arena. Teams are separated by a gate. Each team face 5 waves of increasingly difficult AI bots. When one team finishes their last wave the gate opens and they are free to engage the enemy team for the win. No respawn, only revive.
Suggested by Gastgrinder
Zombie mode (Halloween event perhaps?)
8 v endless wave of NPC/AI horde of undead. Each wave stronger than last. If you die you become a zombie and fight the living. Last player standing wins.
Add to this new AI controlled faction, the undead.
If the group fails to reach a certain number of waves then the AI faction gains war assets and deploy to the map, actively taking over territory.
Suggested by BonzaiBerserkr
Zone Elimination
This mode would be for people who want pure 1v1 fighting against multiple opponents outside of duel. There are 5 zones on the map, 4 outside zones are for fighting, and 1 in the middle that is for spectating only. The match starts off with 1v1 pairings in each of the 4 outside zones. If you win your matchup, You are allowed to exit your zone into the middle safe zone, and wait in line at one of the other zones. Once that zone's 1v1 has concluded, if your teammate won then you have to pick another zone, if your teammate lost you are allowed to enter the zone and 1v1 the winner from their team.
Suggested by ShadoWawker
War
A three-team Elimination mode with faction-locked characters if you get placed on the Viking team, you're only able to select Viking characters, for example. Split the players up the way Elimination does, but make sure to place an equal number of players from each team against each other.
For example, two Viking players will face off against two of the Samurai players, and the other two Vikings will face two of the Knight players. The remaining two Knights and Samurai will face each other. Each player has one life per round (besides revives), the same as in Elimination; the last faction with at least one team member still standing wins the round, first to three rounds wins the match. Single-character limit.
Suggested by xSkeletalx
Warfield mode
Faction vs faction with massive battles of up to 32v32 players.
Suggested by DarkstarQc
Warzone mode
A mode where attackers and defenders fight over three control points one at a time. As one is captured the next activates and the battle moves to it. If the defenders are pushed back to their base the attackers must defeat them all to win. If the timer runs out the defenders must kill all attackers to win. Add minions and archers for more chaotic battles.
