Adjustments in functionality for a more immersive Division game

I'd like to see more immersive weapon/load-out management.

I love how the developers at Ubisoft allowed us to manage our characters appearances in The Division and GR: Wildlands. What made it so great was that you could modify the appearance of the character's face and the clothing/gear they were wearing to truly immerse yourself; whether that was filling every single slot with an article of clothing or gear for that super tacti-cool look or leaving a few options off to appear more incognito or minimal. What we didn't see in The Division or GR: Wildlands, that I would absolutely LOVE to see in The Division 2, was the ability to NOT fill a vacant slot with a weapon.

If you played The Division, GR: Wildlands, or watched the E3 game-play footage for The Division 2; you will notice one persisting element in all 3 games. The player character is carrying 3-4 weapons all the time! Now, this isn't a bad thing at all. I'm not saying Ubisoft should cut down the size of the Agent's loadout entirely; I'm saying that cutting down the size should be an option for a more immersive game.

Since the first trailer for The Division, Ubisoft's 3rd-person shooter games have launched amazing trailers and artwork featuring some really awesome characters with some sweet loadouts...appropriate clothes, a nice backpack, some body armor here and there, 1 primary weapon and 1 sidearm. To be honest; like almost anything nowadays, It was the promotional pieces that captured me and drove me to pre-order and buy all of these games. But, it was a real bummer being forced to run the frozen streets of NYC with such a clunky load on my characters back. Or trying to conduct embedded operations in South America with enough weapons on my back to arm the entire Bolivian rebellion; It was such a tease running around with such a misshaped/unprofessional loadout profile when even the 3 AI team members only had a single primary weapon with very clean profiles.

Now let's talk about The Division 2

With specializations coming, It will be mandatory for players to play a specific role in the team as well as carry a weapon that fulfills that roll. I Love that! That's an awesome step in the right direction. What bothers me, is that in addition to this 1 unique weapon, the player still has 2 primary weapon slots and 1 sidearm slot still available to them. Do the math and that's 4 weapons plus a giant backpack! Being able to utilize that much firepower is definitely an awesome option by default; it is a game after all. But what I would like to see is an option where we can convert that second primary weapon slot into additional inventory space for either: extra primary weapon ammo, secondary ammo, unique weapon ammo, or even space for extra utilities and medical supplies. Heck, why not give people who ditch the extra firepower a slight mobility boost.

I feel my case argues for more than just a change in mechanics for the sake of things being aesthetically pleasing. I also feel it would help truly immerse players into building a load-out that caters their play-style and makes them more efficient as either a single player or team player.

Am I all alone in thinking this is a good idea?

You are not alone. I have 2 characters in TD1 that only have 1 weapon + side.
I posted something similar not long ago.

Until they add things like encumbrance to the game dynamic/system I dont feel this will ever be a thing. Sure if you want carry three weapons but suffer for it. Decrease speed, range or both before the agent needs to take a breather..... but then well have ppl asking to add a strength stat or carry cap.

I always thought it was a bit stupid that we could carry 120 items in our pack. I would have preferred a smaller pack and a larger stash tbh ...... but then where do you draw the line?

Ppl want fun mechanics. They want to switch gearsets on the fly and weapons too....... even in mid-mission. I always felt that was very gamey. Even if I did it a few times on Stolen Signal. Or that they restricted it when in combat.

I think there could or should be some sort of penalty for carrying 2 primary firearms + a sidearm and now the specialization wpn..... which I expect you will be able to magically flip through wherever you are in game. ^^
