Hey guys, hey Ubi CMs,
I'll go straight to the point after playing this open beta, and alpha prior to this.
The game is a big improvement over the first one, generally speaking. You feel more engaged and you seem to race in a less empty absurdly gigantic open world. Let me drigress a little here: Stop making worlds even bigger than you already are, Ubi. You did it, we aknowledged it, now focus on making them alive and full with stuff to do; also RANDOMIZATION which I believe is the key! AKA while you are walking, riding, driving, you find someone on the side of the road that stops you and say "Hey wanna race, hey i got some friends that want to race, i need help for something yada yada yada" proceed to make 10, 20, 100 of those encounters and your game will be much more enjoyable.
Back to TC2; before going on with my list i want to drop the specs of my pc just in case: i5 6600K, 1080Ti, 16GB RAM, 850EVO for both WIN and Games, 34" AOC 3440x1440.
PRESENTATION
GENERAL OPINION: The game starts off great, i like the solid colors of the presentation and menus, it reminds me a lot of Steep in that aspect and i find it clean and appealing. There are a few bugs tho that mine the experience as I listed below.
1)Please ubi, ultra-wide resolutions. They are a given now, a lot of people have ultra-wide monitors thus it's becoming more and more unacceptable to have these black sidebars on menus.
2)There's something about the videos, cutscenes or even menus in some situations, where the aliasing is insane. It appears it has something to do with the scaling of those sequences. I heard from a friend of mine that at 1080p these videos or pre-rendered cutscenes show in a proper way. What I know is that I'd rather not play a game where the non-playable sequences look like a game from the nineties.
3)Don't make exiting the game so frustrating...and you Ubi guys know exactly where this is going....BRING ESC BACK! Esc + Quit game, simple...I don't even know what being a UX/UI developer should be like BUT I KNOW that giving ESC a menu popup is basic stuff, cmon.
SOUND/MUSIC
1)I feel the music is great and throws you into the game in the correct way; very adrenalinic, fast paced and goes along well with the various sequences. Let's just hope there are far more tracks in this sequel because something I was really bored with the first one were the tracks that too soon started to loop in a brain melting symphony which from time to time even made me want to close the game...Yeah, that's how much music and sound is important.
2)As another member of the forum made us notice, (thanks to trainfield-CH https://forums.ubi.com/showthread.ph...-ambient-noise) and I do agree with him, ambient sound doesn't feel like a crucial aspect of the driving experience, especially and mostly if you choose not to listen to music while you're playing. I think this is really important because it helps you a lot with immersion and with "it's like you're there" feeling.
3)I have the Italian version of the game but I think i'll keep the English because the voice-acting in my language isn't too great...but i won't spend too much time on this because this is a wide problem that certainly doesn't affect TC2 only.
GRAPHICS
I don't really understand why TC2 and TC1 don't feel like a usual UBI game, graphically speaking. It's most certainly the "worst" looking series of Ubi line-up. Is it because the map is so overwhelmingly big, and without any loading times as a matter of fact, that it implies that the details can only be so high??And I am talking maximum settings here mind you...Look at Wildlands or Origins for example...These are REFERENCES in the matter of graphic prowess.
And It's a shame because contemplating some scenery and landscapes feels like the type of thing you would do in this kind of game given the absurd magnitude of the open world.
I remember I did those little breaks in TC1 between one race and the other where you lose most of the backgrounds as it blurs behind you at very high speeds...Well I wish those moments were more memorable...Even taking a screenshot in Watch Dogs...yeah not the 2 the FIRST was more rewarding than this.
I feel TC2 isn't quite there in terms of attention to details and general feeling of photorealism.
1)Some people are strongly complaining about low resolution textures or very low LOD in this game giving me REAL CHILLS with some unbelievable screenshots...I honestly didn't notice that but probably because I was so concentrated in the driving experience that I didn't pay attention too much at the details.
2)I also noticed, as many others, some pixel compenetration but I don't really know how Ubi could fix this other than going every single f**** place where it occurs and fix it...only the thought of it...lol
But I guess this is what you get when you decide, again, to make these insane big open worlds...with theme come big responsibilities I suppose :P
To be very honest, I don't really mind them and i definitely DON'T think these will be the most important bugs to fix...not at all. Unless of course you don't run into it but rather u get STUCK in them...then it's game-breaking and you have to fix em asap.
AI/GAMEPLAY
1)Ok so here's the thing. In the alpha i noticed a lot of rubber-banding which is the eternal plague of racing games. For those who are not familiar with it it means that if you are behind in a race the opponents in front of you, when playing with AI of course, tend to go slower to make you catch up and then when you finally do and pass them they magically start going faster, and by faster I mean FASTER THAN YOU, no matter how perfect you are doing turns, managing nitro and such.
This is tedious, boring and lame. So I made a statement in the alpha poll saying that, in my opinion, it was something that needed urgent attention.
Correct me if I am wrong but it seems it's not so much evident now. The situation seems better and with the dual difficulty option on every race it seems they make a turn in that sense.
2)I am sorry to whoever is fighting the "simulation" battle for this game but I am not up for it...TC2 as TC2 are arcade games so, yeah, for me, slamming a car at 200Km/h and seeing it bounce to a damn fence which sould be flyin in the air like feathers doesn't bother me...as long as I have fun driving, riding and doing events, upgrading my car, I just don't mind it.
3)The understeering is still a thing...especially with bikes...I must say I only tried the Harley Davidson run so it might be something related to the custom bikes...which could make sense in the end...But still, I wanted to report this.
Some good points, but I doubt the devs read most the posts. Only a few responses have been left to users. Changes will most likely not be implemented before launch on the 26 for gold access/29th pre-order access. Maybe we will see some updates in the far, far away future, but I doubt the updates will adress the problems that are being left through feedback. Hard truth.
The people who complain about the bad textures and low definition in draw distance are players who play in 1080p and lower. 4K and 2K there is too much difference and don't have this issues. The graphic development has been done for 4k and 2k cleary, and the 1080p players have been abandoned, 1080p are majority.
