I keep getting this message, or something like it from opponents in ranked duel mode and it's driving me crazy. So my bias is clear I don't really care about ornaments. I'll mess around with hero customization while I wait for matchmaking, but striving for rewards has never been important to me. I enjoy fighting the losing battle of trying to improve my duel rank, which I guess might be just as silly as the ornaments to some, but I'm here for tournament structure and, above all, win or lose, for the fights.
The message itself is annoying, but the behaviour of many of the players who send it can ruin the game. Rage quitting (robbing me of my rank increase) or simply throwing the match are fairly common reactions when it becomes clear that I do not intend to let them win. The loss of the rank increase is annoying. Waiting long periods to get in to tournaments only to be matched up against opponents who don't want to play breaks the game at a pretty fundamental level. Especially considering I'm actually quite bad for my rep and many of these players would have pretty good odds of winning if they tried.
Do other people share this frustration? Can anything be done? I don't think punishing the behaviour is the solution, since the penalties are already pretty stiff for quitting and that still happens all the time. Maybe making the ornaments available outside of ranked duel? Maybe just during certain events? Or would that rob them of meaning for people who care about ornaments?
I think an alternative is to make ornament prizes available for purchase, for example, 15000 steel each. Hopefully, that would stop the match throwing requests and relieve those who struggle to get any victories in a tournament. If the devs like that, would they consider making mythic and mask outfits available as prizes in duel tournament as well?
A change in prize structure could be a way forward where more costmetics could either be purchased or won in duel tournament. So if you don't have the patience to earn the item, win it in the tournament. If you're not good enough to win a tournament, at least you can earn it with steel. To start with though, I would have the older costmetics and the ones from previous events available as tournament prizes while the newer ones would be steel purchase only. That then can be updated every season.
