Regurlarly unfeature older maps from now on
Keep the list increasing every week
Yes I forgot about those..... Well they can continue to feature SP Maps , I mean Featured, and Arcade Hero is really no longer needed in PVP .Originally Posted by Steve64b Go to original post
AS long as the host of the rooms Teach others to Favorite maps , or Ubisoft making it easier to favorite maps. Map Makers will have the power to host their own , and will spread to others that will host them as well.
I believe The Devs. Will come up with A solution, and make this all work.
Voted yes. Most maps have an expiration date. I have liked maps that i later started too dislike after playing it over and over. If you give us the chance to change our thumb up or thumb down of a map you might get an indication what maps are over theirr date.
I agree with fallen champ, the bar should be raised of the maps that will get featured.
Also some have several maps featured and other good mappers are ignored and have none. What about a certain amount of maps per mapper max so everybody has a chance to see their maps been played ?
Many players dont look around and adding a map to favorites somewhere in the menu isnt enough. I bet many havent seen that option yet. There really should be a moment after the match is played to add the map you just played to favorites.
I don’t like this two-option question, because there many factors involved here and there are more options then you give us now.
For starters this problem is a very common one (for those who worked with ‘data’ before). When the volume goes up, the tools to find stuff become way more important. So the solution is create a better tool and not to restrict the data. The problem is not having too much featured maps, but create a better tool that filters and find stuff.
Here are my suggestions to this problem:
All featured maps should get special unique stamp (sort of ranking) on them, that they are/were featured. So do not un-feature them but give them special mark, so later on you can always still find them. Also I agree with comment of truesurv1val that the majority of maps (like music and movies) have an expiration date. You don’t throw them away, but set them aside for later. Because after awhile they become fresh again if quality is good. So promote most recent ones, but don't unfeature them.
Create much better personal filtering/searching tool to find stuff. The current system wants to please everyone. For SP and MP, featured, favourite, hero maps. Too many options and most people are super lazy, they choose what’s right in front. And then complain when its becomes boring.
And when more gamemodes come in, this problem become much bigger !! Because currently maps in FC5 can handle only 1 gamemode. So by introducing more gamemodes, most mapmakers will make different versions of their maps ... do I have to go on?
Sorry PanettoniUBI, but your question is way more complicated that you lead on. Also because we do not have all the info.
How will the lobby system work, and look like? Read that some believe this will solve this problem, but I have no idea if that is true. In FC2 we had dedicated servers (24h up) and the admin of server picked 15 maps and they were carefully selected. So they were mix of top quality and some new material. How will the FC5 solution look like? Does the admin there get any good tools to create special environment for their visitors? Or will it be like private lobby is now?
Bit of long answer, but my answer is NO to un-feature maps (got different solution above) but I understand we cannot keep adding 9 maps weekly. Although 70% of them all SP maps. So biggest issue is with SP maps.
My solution is better tools, with more emphasis on finding stuff in your personal favourites instead of general.
For instance: I really like close combat map, find those. Or I like bigger sniper maps, find those, etc. Find what you ask ...
Feature is real nice way to notice new maps. Also big plus of this is that good maps get cross-platform exposure. Only Ubi can do this. So keep featured for sure. But filtering/searchings tools must improve. The website does better work then ingame, but the website does not do that much besides searching and favorite maps. The upcoming lobby system can be big help, if it is good, as the admins of these servers will keep their servers fresh. So all lazy buggers can just drop in, be entertained with awesome handpicked maps and all is well
I personally disagree with unfeaturing maps because it decreases the overall map pool for featured playlists and map picking. I believe featured maps should simply be listed in chronological order (in order of date featured, as opposed to publish date), which at least for multiplayer, will decrease the chances map pickers will pick an older map.
What is the limit Jolan ?Originally Posted by JolanXBL Go to original post
I just assumed we could add and add maps as favorites page after page - now I am worried.
Jolan, i think increasing the maps is useless, i understand more players have a featured map if you increase them butOriginally Posted by JolanXBL Go to original post
Its, just like people looking at google searches, most dont look further then the top 10 results. Let alone they look at page 2. Think this also the case on average with most players picking a map.
I rather go for quality instead of quantity.
Why not make one map picker not allowed to pick feature maps but only allowed to pick published maps. Now you dont have to worry about getting the same feature maps but forces people to play new player created levels and the map picker should be picked based on how many maps they have made to ensure they have maps to be selected. I have about 20 published maps all better then nuketown and shovel dodgers.
Why not start organizing all the maps some maps need to be deleted due to people not playing the game anymore and they just made a crap map to say they made one. Also delete a map with no design ( one house vs one house. By deleting crap maps all the good maps will just start to emerge from players. I have seen more then enough good maps made and ten times that of maps we dont want to play. So why not instead of just getting rid of your old maps get rid of players with awful maps that take up space so players aren't forced to play feature maps.thank you
At very least put all crap maps in a bargain lobby away from people because people see those awful maps and think all people make bad maps and then they dont take the risk to vote on it.
