    Matchmaking Feedback Thread!

Hey everyone! We're back from E3 and slowly getting back into the swing of things.

Last month we asked for your personal experience with Matchmaking, and your feedback helped us out a LOT.

Now it's been a few weeks, MMR has settled back into place, and we've seen a significant drop in average matchmaking time globally. We also fixed the bug you uncovered about Player Activity Indicator in game modes. We'd like you to update on us on how the Matchmaking has felt the last week or so, both in terms of time, and matchup quality.
Please leave in your answer the following info to help us parse things:

    • Region
    • Platform
    • Game Mode played
    • In Group or Solo

    Thanks!

    - For Honor Community Team

    Hi Ubi,

Like i and many others said in many threads.. Match Making use to be very unbalance since the changes start with season 6.

    It was fine before.

And another point is there are too much IA in each Game because of the penalty removal .. should be back in my opinion because if a player leave after 2 min of game because rage quits despite both team are balanced, then things gonna become difficult for others players who stay playing and that's unfair and happen too much now.

I don´t like the matchmaking at all. I play few hours per week and I keep getting so much better players than me. I was very surprised when I had this matchup against me. It is even funny how bad matchmaking is. How can level 5 Highlander face against reputation 9 Valkyrie ? It´s like 100 hours vs 1 hour. Does it seems fair ?

    Hi there,

one of the main problems i still see with matchmaking is people leaving by disconnecting their internet. Im fairly certain that this does NOT count as a loss for them (since the game doesnt show up on fthtracker at all while leaving via UI does).

So basically it is currently VERY EASY to inflate your MMR by disconnecting your internet when losing the game.

Lack of team rebalancing when staying after a round is a huge issue because it means there is almost no incentive for the losing team to stay but a solid incentive for the winning team. This also means that when all losing players leave and 2 new players join, the game will start 4 players vs 2 players+ 2 bots which is frankly atrocious and my main gripe with 4s (bot games).

Join in progress into games that are almost over is still terrible and losses/wins based on join in progress games will horribly distort mmr.

Premades will distort mmr because of the aforementioned reasons as well.

The overall matchmaking experience for solo players in 4v4 is abyssmal and makes me want to unistall the game. Orders forcing me to play 4v4 modes doesnt help.

    Region : EU ( germany )
    Platform : PC
    Gamemod : Dominion
    SOLO

    - Option where i can choose to only get a LOBBY and not middle of the game where all Zone r away and my team has 200 point and enemy close to 800 and i just WTH should i do here. ( this might be bad for those game with some bots becaus they willnt be too many player which want to replace a bot in middle of the game but so we dont waste time while we JUST want to play a match )
    - Game when u begin with 1 or 2 bots n team and ur opponent 4 players ( we start the game run to a zone with bot its a 2v2 or 3v3 situation , someone join the game BOT disappears exactly between a scene where he,s attacking, and its most like u will lose the fight. More often someone join and isnt happy becaus he is now in middle of a game and leave instant but in this time we r 3v4 like 2 minutes and this match is already GG )
    1. The bot should not be replace instant when someone join , only after it died .
    2. If someone leave or get DC the char should be controled by bot ( idk if its possible ,if not then nothing to do )
    - if someone search a game in group then , the game shouldnt start when enemy has 1 or 2 bots. I mean that they r in team is actually a PLUS and if enemy has a Bot then this match is nearly gg only NOT if they r very bad and the 3 or 2 in other team r way better ( very rare , becaus of same skill lvl matchmaking )

    For Honor's horrible matchmaking system

For Honor's matchmaking is the worst matchmaking system I've ever seen, I always get put up against people that have higher ranks than me and I always get put on the losing team because I'm filling in the bot. If there's a thing that can choose matchmaking settings like not joining games that already started or just make the game system more balanced it would be a lot better.

    Feedback on matchmaking

I don't know what happened, but ever since Season 6 rolled out the matchmaking became so bad the game is almost unplayable for me.

Whenever I queue up in a random gamemode, whether it is dominion (very high activity btw) or a duel, the region, player skill and player reputation matchmaking settings always switches to 'all'. This is followed by another 10 minutes of waiting before I am put into a game with people who have 100 reps above me or new players who literally just got the game. I am rep 26 and should not be matched up with people at these levels.

If I am lucky I might find a game within a reasonable time, however, the game is usually full of bots. I might as well just play bot games and skip the waiting time. It is almost as if I am the only person left that still plays this game.

Possible fun way to punish dishonorable players

In both Dominion and Elimination modes, there is a lot of instances where the 4v4 aspect is abused in matchmaking. There are instances in Dominion where teams of 4 players run around the map capturing zones and then 4v1 any opposing player. That case is also occurring in elimination modes as well. In order to keep the game honorable (as honor is in the title of the game) I want to propose a solution. If it is possible, could the dev team create an option where a player from either team could switch sides in the cases of where players run around the maps 4v1ing the members of the opposing team? I understand that was the purpose of revenge mode, but due to the easy and constant use of unblockable attacks that deal significant damage, revenge does not really increase the odds of the player on the receiving end of the 4v1. I was just in an elimination match where my team had bested 3 members of the opposing team and then proceeded to 3v1 the last member of the opposite team. I did not agree with how the rest of my team was playing and I had wished so badly that I could switch teams to help the overwhelmed player. I understand this may not be possible, but I thought it would be a fun way to preserve the honor of the game instead of constantly having to face 4v1's and on very rare occasions 3v1s in dominion, elimination, and tribute matches.

    Feedback from a new player

    Hello everyone.

Firstly let's get the basics out of the way:
    - Region: Europe (Germany)
    - Platform: PS4
    - Game Mode: Mostly Dominion because there are no players in the other modes
    - Group or Solo: mixed, mostly group though

I just recently picked up the game when it was on sale for PS4. I also got 3 friends of mine to join the brawl with me. I gotta say that so far I love the game and we are having a blast playing it. Also the better I get at the game the less I blame the game for my mistakes which is the one fundamental thing a game should be doing right. When I first started I blamed 95 % of my deaths on bad balancing, but now I that I understand the mechanics better I realize that it is my own lack of skill as well as blatant stupidity at times that is getting me killed. That is a good thing and one that only really good games really achieve.

But let's get to this topic here. The matchmaking is downright aweful. Mostly I think it comes down to the developpers being afraid of increasing the already horrendous queue times even further. I can only speak for myself there but I'd rather wait one more minute or even two than getting matched against players whose mere presence on the battlefield gets me killed without them even realizing I was there to begin with. This also applies the other way around. I don't like being on the winning team when the match ends 1000 : 100 points. That does not feel like I have accomplished anything.

In my opinion using the reputation level as an indicator for matchmaking is a mistake. How many matches a player has played in total is not a good indicator for his personal skill level. Like the aforementioned 1000 : 100 matches. At least the ones I partook in had nothing to do with me but mostly with the 1 rep 50 player I was matched with and who killed the entire opposing rep 0-2 team over and over while the three of us mostly stood idly by.

A much better approach to matchmaking is the personal K/D/A ratio as it really represents how you fair against other players. Also the average "goals achieved" per match should be taken into account as it shows how seriously you take the core gamemode mechanics as opposed to players that ignore their team and just try to get as many kills as possible.

The goal should be to pit players against each other that play similarly well and the same way not who have played for the an equal amount of time.

Next thing is the bot problem. I have no problem playing with a bot on my team. But if a Bot gets replaced by a player it should not happen instantly as it gets a player killed almost certainly or rips a player of an earned kill. That is more frustrating than it is helpful. Instead the exchange should take place when the Bot is either killed or not within 50 meters of an enemy player and not capping an objective. That would make for a more smooth transition. The joining player should be put in tactical view instead of instantly joining the match.

And lastly about the queue times. Why is there even an button that shows us the options of the queue if there is not the possiblity to change anything? A good system would instead allow us to manually choose a min and max reputation rank as well as a min and max K/D/A ratio we are willing to go up against. Even better would be an estimated queue time shown that changes according to our selection.

As far as I know there used to be a display for concurrent active players which has been taking out to mask the dwindling player count. I am not sure that this is a smart move. Again I can only speak for myself here but seeing not many players playing a game I like is not turning me away from something I like. On the contrary I feel more connected to a small community than being part of an anonymous huge one. Fewer more dedicated players are better for a game than more players that are less invested in the game. So in conclusion showing us exact numbers for player count as well as estimated queue times would be smart. In the end it is up to me as a player which time investment I am willing to put into a game and that includes wait times.

So enough of me babbling. I hope that this wall of text is remotely understandable as english is not my native language. I wish you all a great day and hope to meet all of you on the battlefield
