    A Suggestion for Melee Combat

Alright, I'm not going to lie. I don't want lengthy drawn out battles, especially not from a vessel that is so critically wounded that it's open to Boarding. Because I think that's something that a lot of people that want Boarding to have Melee forget, Boarding in this game is essentially a victory lap. There's no need to have that be a thing, especially when all it will do is leave the boarder open to getting killed by the other person's allies if they have any.

    So, here's a proposal instead.

Make it a Rock-Paper-Scissors format, except with the ever classic Pirate gear. A Cutlass and a Pistol. The three actions are Attack, Block, and Shoot. Attack defeats Shoot as due to the close-quarters nature of all Pirate fights means that the Melee attacker can close the distance and kill the pirate before they pull the trigger. Block defeats Attack as the melee attack is deflected and the attacker gets counter-swiped. Shoot defeats Block as the Melee defender takes too long to realize that a shot is about to be fired and gets hit before they can slice the shooter.

This allows for a very simplified combat mechanic that can be easily fit into Multiplayer during a Duel, and can also allow for PvE gameplay on land as you counter the A.I.'s choice of attack. It'd be very cinematic and QTE-like, but it allows for the Naval Combat to be well-developed and also allows for Ubisoft to make the combat more flashy.

Something that this allows Ubisoft to do as well is animate flashier attacks, thus allowing for players to collect different ways of portraying the three actions to suit their needs. As well as allowing them create one-handed swords and pistols to collect. Nothing says "Terror of the Seven Seas" quite like a shamshir emblazoned with rubies and a pistol modeled after a dragon.

So, if Ubisoft ever feels like putting in Ground/Dueling mechanics, there's an easy to implement option. So what do you other scum of the sea think of this idea. Let me know down below, and if you like the idea, give a suggestion for how you'd want your character to cut up their foes, counter-attack and show them the fool for thinking they could attack you, or how you'd want to draw and fire your pistols. Or perhaps what kind of sword and pistol you'd want your Captain to wield in tandem.

It sounds nice, however, Getting your enemy to "boarding health" is already a hard work and a "win" for you so if you are winning the battle and decided to board, having RNG screw you up doesn't seem good.

Oh! That was my bad! Boarding should remain as is. I more meant this for things like if you're going on a raid through a Pirate Fort or if both Pirate Captains challenge each other to a duel! I knew I left something out!

You can edit them, but the edit function is hard to find. In the bottom right of a post, you'll see the Reply button with a [+] next to it. If you click on the [+], there's an Edit Post option.

Thank you so much. I'll leave the posts as is for now, otherwise people who read it won't have context for some of the things already said.

Edit: Geeze, already had to edit.
