I thoroughly enjoyed the story part of the The Division when I had it. Left after the first DLC as not much to do for the average player. Game was for hard core players at that point.
I have an interest in the Division 2 but sounds like for an RPG type game, it will be short on story. Previews indicate that you will get to end game quickly. Quite dishearted to see a revamped version of the Dark Zone will be included in the Division 2.
So wanted to know how the DZ is currently. Have they improved it for the average player or does it still cater to the hardcore crowd that ruined everyone else's fun? I enjoyed the Dark Zone until one month after the game came out the rules for the DZ were changed and after that point it was only for those who could spend lots of time in groups after that and when they got bored with the DZ because they couldn't level any more, did nothing but ruin everyone else trying to get some where with leveling using the DZ.
Saw another post about making DZ PvE only so looks like nothing has changed.
I solo the DZ daily.
Spend 95% of my playtime in there.
Get tons of classified and exotic loot that I give away to anybody that claims it.
In the last couple of weeks I got jumped twice.
That’s two times in countless hours running around.
Rogues are easily avoided. Easily hunted as well. The servers these days seem to gang up on them so good fun is had if you elect to engage in PK’ing. That said, if you just want to mind your own business and get on with it, easily done as well.
Its big enough that you dont necessarily even see other agents in the top part of the maps. Thats also where the strong (yellow) npcs are coincidently.... rogues dont like their quarry to get help from npcs.
The dz atm is like a coin. On one side you can go in some days and never see a rogue or manhunt. Other days its full of them. It depends on the time of day alot. At least on PC.
On the flipside - as for actually pvping in there..... its still the domain of groups unless you happen to find a solo player who wants an easy kill. The problem with balance between gearsets has been solved if in an unsatisfactory way. ALot of ppl now just play Striker exclusively. I just had a solo nomad try to kill me while I was doing dailies with a pve character. The two times I went in there earlier today with pvp character builds I didnt have any trouble.... ^^ So I did what I could.... I let an npc kill me - Im sure that really pissed of that player!
Then I logged back in with a pvp character (again solo) and there was a manhunt camping outside a ckpt. So I go out and help the 3 or so solo players against a group of 4. At least 3 were playing striker. Didnt see the fourth. I was the only one who managed to kill one of the rogues and almost managed another one but they revived. Got killed twice. Then got bored.![]()
Thank you both. Appreciate the replies!
Doesn't sound like the game hasn't changed much, even though I have read the developers have improved the game. They keep saying this game in an rpg game but still seems like a looter/shooter to me, particularly since I got a bargain basement purchase on Destiny 2 and playing that right now. And they said the story will be shorter in Division 2 to get to end game quicker.
For the majority of players like me, with maybe 1 to 2 hours in an evening to play, The Division end game wasn't much fun and it's why so many people I use to group with left.
1) Your build already had to be at the gear level to get the same level gear from strikes. Most of my random matches for higher strikes were failures. Think out of 40 strikes attempted had 2 successful ones. And got the same gear I already had. I would like to say I would have continued trying strikes but other games came out that were much more enjoyable for my limited gaming time.
2) As such that left you the DZ to level up as it was truly the best place for leveling. That huge map of NYC and basically forced to play in a what, a small 4 block by 10 block radius if I recall correctly. At the point I was at, the only place to get gear to advance was zone 6. IF I survived getting the gear, I had to extract from zone 4 as the zones 5/6 were too much for me to extract.
3) That placed me squarely in the sights of rogues as they had more than enough time to get there from Zone 1 with the long extract time. I left sorry for all those below my level as they ran into rogues all the time in the first three zones. Some time I was successful, lots of other times not. It could be up to an hour or so just to do a single extract trying to avoid rogues.
4) Basically, the DZ provided no fun and no accomplishment for the free time I had.
So again, I appreciate the replies. Sounds like from what I am reading for Division 2, it's going in a worse direction for the average player. Doesn't mean I won't necessary purchase it. I got Destiny 2 for $12 bucks and having fun with it. When I get to 'high' end game, it will be time to leave but I found D2 better than D1 by waiting for a 9 months before purchasing plus at the price I got it, makes things more palatable . Might find the same for the Division 2.
If you get Division 2, hope you both find it enjoyable.
Its changed alot.... but in terms of tweaks and reworkings At least to the game mechanics. And to some degree the content.Originally Posted by DieHarder55 Go to original post
I would it is a looter/shooter (w/ RPG elements thrown in). But its not what Id call RPGesque after you complete the story. Unless you equate the MMO-lite part to that.
If the story is "shorter" then thats the downside of 3 free updates in year 1. Im expecting at least the same length story element at the start that we got for TD1. The Y1 updates to add to that. Would be smoke and mirrors stuff if it turns out to be the case.
The endgame can be fun if you focus your efforts but the grind wasnt/isnt rewarding. I suspect that even though things have changed it will be the same story. Afterall they want you to keep playing and if you get everything fast there gona be little reason to stick around. I personally wont be interested in the grind so much in TD2.
Yeah the dz is what it is. Their mistake was thinking everyone was prepared to go there in the search for better loot. Not a problem for some ppl and I guess there were enough potential targets to keep it viable. So I dont see much changing there. Maybe better balance with the equipment reboot. If they go the same route though in year 2+ and introduce gearsets then the same things will reoccur.
Well you and me both. Though I put in a lot more time in the game then you did we still had the same concerns. I defo dont consider this a day 1 purchase. This may change but I always say that after youve seen the positivityof the marketing bus and its trailer(s) the only way is down.![]()
Who's "they"? I don't remember hearing anyone say that. The developers have stated that they've created the sequel with the end game in mind , so that we don't immediately run out of things to do like we did in the first one, but I don't recall hearing or seeing anything about sacrificing story to get to the end-game quicker. That would make no sense.Originally Posted by DieHarder55 Go to original post
The game is NOT like that anymore. Hasn't been since update 1.4, over a year and a half ago. The implementation of World Tiers allows you to steadily progress at your own pace one you hit level 30. World Tier controls the quality of loot you get, and mission difficulty controls the quantity. No more running the hardest missions you can bear, only to get gear that's at or below your current level.Originally Posted by DieHarder55 Go to original post
And Dark Zone entry is NOT at all required. I've personally acquired every bit of classified and exotic gear in the game, and haven't so much as set foot inside the DZ in nearly two years. Only reason to go in there now is if you enjoy the environment (or if you are game for being lured in to complete various optional PvE challenges).
Of course, at some point, you will level off and as you get better gear, finding improvements over your current stuff will be less and less frequent, but that's the nature of the beast. But unlike the early days of this game, getting to that point now actually feels fun and rewarding instead of cruel and punishing.
The current game is definitely not without its faults, but I'd say in your case, it definitely warrants a second look.
You really source the stuff you say instead of just lyingOriginally Posted by DieHarder55 Go to original post
They’ve already confirmed in this dev interview with SkillUp that they’ll be more missions than last time

Hope you’re not reading these forums to make an informed, educated opinion lolOriginally Posted by DieHarder55 Go to original post
If you want pertinent information which addresses one of the very issues you are worried about, ie the limited amount of time you have vs people with hours to game then you have to listen to the latest podcast from Julian. He addresses that very topic and it’s also the only time in all the interviews that he was specifically asked to address the topic so the info can only be found there.
The thread is on these forums - give it a listen: It’s well worth it!
