Hey Ghosts,
I bought GRW and The Division during a sale a few months back. Since that time I've been playing TD and while I sucked at that also, at least initially, I actually got the hang of things after a while. I ended up loving TD, loved the atmosphere, the cover system, the weapons, missions, and actually the grind was fun - kept me interested to see what may drop. Now after 200+ hours (all solo) its time to move from agent to ghost.
So, that brings me to GRW. While I love the graphics/environment and like the genre/objectives, I'm having problems with combat. It helps that the controls are similar to The Division but I think the primary area I'm struggling with is the cover system (or lack of) and enemy "hordes". I feel so vulnerable, unable to properly use cover, in addition to enemies popping up "everywhere". For example, take a simple mission that requires me to guard/protect a radio for a period of time (The Division has similar side missions). I have a hard time taking cover and moving from cover to cover as the enemies come from every direction, many times from areas that make no sense why they would be there in the first place. Also, once the UNi's join in it's pretty much over.
I do understand that GRW is suppose to be more "realistic" than TD as far as damage, but for the most part I could one shot most enemies in TD with my sniper rifle or finish them off in short order with a good assault rifle. In addition, I could use cover very effectively and could engage the enemy from a position of strength (most of the time). I don't have a problem with being more susceptible to injury/death in GRW but for god sake give me a better chance to take cover and hold my ground without enemies instantly knowing where I am and spawning in front of me, both sides, from the rear, and from the air!
Sorry for the long post... basically I'm looking for two things (for solo play). First, any tips for a newbie (and not a very good gamer to begin with)? Second, does it get easier/better once I get better weapons or skills? Regarding the second, early on in TD agents are weak and vulnerable but once you get a chance to build your character and obtain better weapons and gear the table turns, I became more of a bad *** and less of a wimp :-).
I want to like GRW, I really do, but I'm temped to move onto something else. I want to see the beauty of GRW (if it's there!).
GRW certainly offers different gameplay than some other titles. ....and yes, it is more unforgiving in relation to the damage model which quite frankly, is what attracted me to it. It's what I wanted the Division to be before knowing they were going the RPG route in that game.
GRW isn't an RPG but it still has RPG elements like the skill tree. Yes, it does get easier depending on what skills you select, the difficulty and other options you choose. There are health buffs and things like explosion effectiveness, etc. that can have a big impact on the lethality of the experience.
To me, GRW is more of a 360 degree or 3D experience (for lack of a better term) than the Division was. What I mean by that is that it is much easier to be encircled by enemies, reinforcements, attacked from helos, ridgelines/depressions, rooftops, balconies, upper level windows, etc. You also have many more choices of approach and how you engage targets. The Division was much less so in this regard.
Weapons do have their own stats so yes, some are more lethal or effective than others. The acc's also change those attributes depending on what you prefer (some have pros and cons). ....in that respect, the game does get easier once you acquire better weapons.
My suggestion would be to stick with easier regions first until you can upgrade your skills and find better weapons / upgrades. Some of the radio side missions you speak can be quite difficult IMO especially when playing solo, so don't feel bad. .....they are much easier when playing with friends in co-op. They are not all alike IME as some are easier than others.
As for the cover system, I got used to it fairly quick but I know some who continued to struggle. It's not the best mechanic but I (personally) don't think it's all that horrible. Just keep plugging away.
GRW isn't for everyone although I think it's clear by now that Ubi has tried to make it attractive to the masses with their direction. Personally, I think they should have expended on those elements that made the game unique and spoke to many of us hardcore fans during development but at this point, we take what we can get.
I liked the Division but I absolutely loved GRW by comparison. Hopefully you can stick with it and find some elements of GRW that you enjoy as well.
For starters, I also have issues with the radio defense missions. I use any cheesy strat I can think of to make it through those (generally walls of stolen vehicles and/or careful mining). Remember, you're not limited to the amount of mines you can carry on your person. You can always go back to an ammo crate and pick up a few more. But do not put these anywhere near civilians. :|Originally Posted by FuzzyFassbendr Go to original post
There's a few things to pay attention to that can save you some headaches down the road: Is the area considered a dangerous one per the difficulty label on the Tacmap? If so, maybe head back to a safer area.
Are you using silenced weapons/CQC? You can go loud and make it work, but open conflict can spiral out of control in an open world game like Wildlands.
And when it comes to the Unidad, I think it's true that at some point you basically have to run and hide (unless you can take care of them quickly and quietly). Discretion is the better part of valor.
Hope all of this helps!
Firstly welcome to the forums.
I played the first mission about 6 weeks ago when the game was free on Xbox for the weekend. Then brought the game about the week later.
At first I was enjoying it. Next thing I wasn't.
I was struggling with missions left right and centre. Then I got my head down and worked out how to play the game in order difficulty.
Not play a 1 star mission then a 5 star with the basics.
In my opinion suppressor/silencer and drones are your best friend.
Then once I started upgrading skills and drones.
That's when I really got into it.
At the moment I can't stop playing.
I only play campaign and reached level 25 tier 1 last night. All from campaign. Never even turned the multiplayer on. So other players will be able to help you there.
Once I'm finished the campaign ( hopefully this weekend ). I'm planning on getting fallen ghosts dlc next week.
If you on Xbox and ever fancy company let me know.
Hope this helped I wasn't sure what to say.so gave you my experience
As Ubinsulin said, prep the area first before turning the radio on. You can place mines but the maximum put down at any one time is 12 and if you place any more then the game starts removing them in the order you placed them. Don't put them too close to each other or the first one to go off will trigger more for no real effect. Put some C4 down too if you know vehicles come a certain way. Use Guns For Hire just before turning the radio on, there is a slight delay to them arriving, Rebel Diversion and Rebel Mortars.
I usually camp near or by an ammo crate and put all the mines in the direction I can't see.
Over time you get used to the control of the game, GRW has a fairly wide learning curve, I still remember my first hours of play and the frustrations I had because things were not as I wanted, I began to get used to the third or fourth region, be patient, with the hours everything will start to come out naturally.
What is radar tower?
Drone Jammer, yes, they will respawn.
Almost everything in this game, such as Enemy Base, Jammer, Power Generator, Alarm, SAM will regenerate when you die or fast travelling. With exception of SAM that almost indefinitely respawn when you left it behind your eyes as soon as you destroyed it.
-----------
Anyway, you won't be Division-ing in this game. Except later when decided to switch on Tier One mode (can be deactivated at any time). That will be where you get insta-kill by NPC like in Division.
As for cover system, you better get used to it. Why? In this era of shooter, I'm just glad that GRW doesn't have S/N magnets with covers. So no more clicking hide-able spots and commence auto duck-sprint to it. Instead, you gotta choose where you think is the best spot to take cover or hide, and then you gotta move your way there carefully whether by sprinting or ducking or while in prone. I think this is part of the challenge. Sometimes we may make mistake and choose the wrong cover and get shredded because it's too weak to cover us from the incoming bullets.
Hi everyone)
Allow me to contribute to the training of the novice))
So:
The first thing that you must understand and remember that YES GRW management and some gameplay mechanics of something slightly reminiscent of the Division. BUT! This is a completely different game! More complicated, more hardcore and it makes you THINK! Understand - there are many ways to solve a problem. Immediately say. Many here on forum know me...And do not like)) May deservedly) Yes, I'm rude, sometimes it is not restrained, and indeed the conclusion of many a I'am bad guy, but I'm always willing to help someone who knows how, and most importantly likes to think.
Important that, the in-game experience I have, without false modesty, is very large. But knowledge even more than many people (no offense guys)) Because I am very carefully watching all the processes that occur in the game.
And I can give you some tips to make your game a little easier in the future.
The first thing you need to remember that despite the fact that you are a beginner and not all the weapons available to you at the initial stage, nothing can you deprive of such an ability as to THINK and carefully OBSERVE.
Second. I would advise you to start your radio-related missions after you have mines and flash-Bang grenades.
Third. There's also one trick that will allow your radio to live longer. Take four cars and put them in a square around the radio. Mobs will have to bypass the machine that would destroy the radio. They rarely shoot an object through an obstacle. But remember. If the car blows, it'll destroy the radio!
Fourth. NEVER sit near the radio! Mobs often throw fragmentation grenades!)
Fifth. The first thing to do BEFORE turning on the radio to lay mines on the approaches to the object. Important! ALWAYS observe the distance between the mines is not less than 20 game meters! Otherwise, if you lay them very close to each other, one mine will start a chain reaction destroying everything at once and you will lose the advantage in defense. In 99% of the game radio protection in the open area. The rest of the attack comes from the air. By the way! At max upgrade the skill "Mines" maximum mines you can lay on the map, without mutual substitution of one place mines on others = 8. The lower the level of "Mines" the less this maximum! The maximum amount of explosives on the map for each member of the group = 9 (8 mine+1 C4 or 8 C4+1 mine)
Sixth. When enemies gather in groups of three or more people ALWAYS first throw a flash-Bang grenade and only then the shrapnel. So the enemies do not have time to get out of the radius of the grenade!
Seventh. Do not forget about AI allies and often give them the order to "open fire". The fact is that in the first couple of seconds after giving this order, your allies with a probability of 99% instantly kill the first mobs that appear in the location(Randomly)
Turn your head 360 degrees. And of course do not forget about the shelter around the object. If it is possible to take the height. Keep her busy. But so that you are protected and the subject is in line of sight.
Good luck))
P.S. Sorry for the long answer ;-)
