I though these event orders were cross platform, is that not the case?
It was already half way filled on PC yesterday and it's over now. I think that was remarkably fast for a mode that was otherwise making me sit through 5-10 minute wait times for a match. Something is amiss here, there is a disparity between the new matchmaking and how popular Tribute actually is - the two do not correlate. If the Tribute order could be filled this fast (on PC at least) then Tribute must be a more popular mode than matchmaking wait times would have us believe.
I thought so too, but apparently not. I was speaking of PS4 in my OP.Originally Posted by Vakris_One Go to original post
It's possible, also possible people went over just for the event, either way it is kind of sucky that they so hugely underestimated the numbers. If they are going to make it so that people have to participate, the issue is not everyone works office hours and if they get the numbers so low then there are always going to be people that miss out. I've said since the change they either need to take the risk that the event does not get filled and go in the high side of their estimate or they need to let an event run the whole weekend regardless of when the target is met.Originally Posted by Vakris_One Go to original post
In any case it certainly shows that people can flock to it, here's hoping the game mode keeps a few people because I would rather play tribute than dominion currently, while it might not be a thing higher tier, at any I have played in it feels like dominion has been taken over by people who would prefer to be playing skirmish.
I'd go for letting events run for a fixed period of time like a week and if the target number is met before the week is up then all participants get a global bonus of 2k steel each. Solves the problem of event orders finishing too quick and still entices players to play the event mode a lot so they can get the bonus reward. Simple fix. Devs, you can thank me in steel for this ideaOriginally Posted by CandleInTheDark Go to original post
Tribute's only major problem in terms of "pro MLG play" is that once you get two flags you no longer need to leave your base. You just stay and defend with as many OP feats as you can muster. Maybe that's what drives the MLG crowd away? I don't see why though since Dominion is even easier to coast by on points once you have a considerable lead over your opponent. Tribute at least always gives you the potential for a comeback even until the last second.
Once a team chooses to sit and defend 2 flags it becomes a true 4v4 then with all the mess of Dominion's feat driven deathballs but it STILL has more strategy involved simply because you can try different approaches if one fails rather than repeatedly deathballing until the match ends. You can have a distraction fight while a single member of your team slips in and kidnaps a flag and/or various permutations of that like 2 fighters/2 infiltrators, 3 fighters/1 infiltrator or 1 long range Bombringer and 3 forward guards
Basically anything you can do in Dominion you can do just as well in Tribute except that the objective is always the driving factor for scoring points rather than having a brainless team deathmatch across a tiny map. I'm surprised the high level tournament players stick with Dominion over Tribute to be honest. Is a glorified team deathmatch easier to sell to a Twitch audience or something?
