Ok, I’m happy to hear counter arguments but;
On Shard, if you are killing minions whilst your team has a 3v4 on A, please come and help! We are unlikely to win that fight and if we all die guess what, you’re getting ganked next and the enemy will have ALL zones. Don’t turn a potential team wipe into an impossible situation by blissfully ignoring the fight thinking your helping by killing soldiers - short term you are, long term you’re not.
Similar on Citadel Gate/Sanc Bridge - if you are sat at home point boosting while there’s a teamifight at B, please help! Boosting won’t hrlp when we are all dead and they gank you next and control ALL zones.
Winning team fights is, regrettably, too important on these small maps.
I agree partly in that if you're team is getting their asses kicked you should probably stop killing minions and go help, but as someone who primarily will run straight to the minions at the start of the match i like to at least clear the first wave of minions before rushing over to help. A lot of the time i don't worry about this. The people i squad up with are capable players and unless they're actively telling me to get my *** over there then i'll keep clearing minions until the point is ours.
I can understand Citadel and Sanctuary spawn point boosting. it's common for the enemy team to have at least one person run around and try to capture your point. until it's absolutely clear that no one is making it past your teammates it's never a bad thing to have at least one person hang back a bit.
I play dominion like this...if you don't answer my call for reinforcements, I don't answer yours. So while I might die at B fighting the good fight, I get the pleasure of standing by and watching my useless teammate get ganked by the very people he could have saved himself from....while I go cap the enemy zone....I'm certainly not going to enter in to a meat grinder to save someone who didn't answer the call.
No on the flip side if a teammate has faught side by side with me, answered the call, has done mulitple revives for me...I'll answer that persons call even if it means going head first into a meat grinder.
Sometimes you fight along side a teammate where both of you are insync in your fighting style and objectives. Its those type of people that make for honor such an interesting game. Those online fighting twins.
A meat grind by the way is three to four enemies against one that sitts on the zone closest to your spawn. each time a team mate respawns they go in to fight and then die until someone gets the bright idea to go cap the enemies zone or take out minions on B.
How do you distinguish between a player that flat out refused to help your or someone who was incapable of coming to you at that moment in time?
I'm not saying that you're wrong, we all play the game how we like cause it's our money we spent to play it. But That logic, to me at least, seems to be very subjective. What if, in your moment of need, i'm currently engaged in another fight, or on the other side of the map? I might not be able to get to you in time. But regardless if i'm not there the second you need assistance then you'll refuse to assist me?
If i run to the minions at the start of the match, and suddenly there's a 3v4 going on, there's a chance that i still won't make it there in time if the fight is going that poorly. or if i run up and it turns out you didn't need my help at all? i could have kept clearing minions and been on my way to capturing the other point.
I'm just saying that it doesn't make sense to punish a player for not being at your side the very second you need help. often i find that by the time a player realizes they need help it's already too late. i'll get there and suddenly i'm alone because you've died and then i'm left in the grinder alone.
I wouldn't be upset if the minion lane as we know it was done away with entirely. It's lame and unbearably grindy to cleave through endless guys who aren't even as high as your shoulder to take a point. And decent 1v1 fights in dom are rare, it sucks so bad to have them spoiled by minions clogging everything up and interrupting your fight.
But on topic: Dom is regularly a mess, no one communicates and no one knows what they should be doing outside of trying to "play the game". And often you can't win with your choices, if you leave B, someone will pretend they know more and complain, if you go help, someone will cry about giving revenge, etc. Your best course of action is to play with people you know and voice chat, if that isn't an option, then you might be better turning chat off and just doing your thing.
Well, I`ll have to agree and disagree with OP`s examples and post. A lot of the times unless you can wipe them out fast which most of the time unless one side is doing a lot better they won't be able to kill off the enemy team fast enough with 3 or 4. Generally, I would personally help my team in that team fight if we control the points, have a point lead or both teams or the enemy team is low on HP. Because if we are at a point disadvantage and they control the points capping the points and then trying to split up the incoming death ball is the winning strategy. This fact is supported by personal experience, ALL the top level players and Ubisoft that even made a guide on warriors den with some of the top players.
Now, team fights are a double-edged sword, if you lose it you lose hard if you win if you win big. However, if they control the points and get to keep spawning and running into that team fight and keep prolonging it while they control the zones you probably lost the match. On the other hand, if you control the zones a team fight that you win or that just keeps prolonging is in your favor.
Most people in regular matchmaking loves Skirmish and would probably only play that mode if you could get the same XP/fast queue times as Dominion. At least they certainly play like it was Skirmish.
You raise good points here and the current state of the match absolutely should influence your decision on whether or not to help the team fight depending on how many zones you control. Decision making is important in dominion, I’ve seen some excellent 1v1 fighters suck in dominion as they don’t know where to be and when.Originally Posted by Kliftheone Go to original post
Similarly, getting ‘stuck’ in a fight at B when your team has neither A or C is a bad idea.
Ok so here is the problem I have with this
A | BC
300 | 600
A is white, the other team are gaining two points a second, within a minute if nothing changes the score will be 300-720 (not counting kills of course). Even assuming no kills, within four minutes, which skirmish style rolling 4v4's can last, we will be in breaking with only 300 points on the board
Someone is spamming group up.
Maybe people shouldn't be getting into 3v4's to begin with and rather play the objective, I know sometimes it relies on people being able to hold a 1v2 a few seconds or even just running away and letting them cap the zone without a fight and it is by far easier on larger maps which we need more of but the best way to deal with a roaming four man is to make sure they only ever hold one zone at a time and that is what I try to do my bit towards.
If what you want is a rolling multi person fight that is what skirmish is for, help that population grow. I'll be over here playing the objective.
Minions help, they may not do much but they get in the way, they can tear a player up, and killing the opposing teams minions adds to the total score. So even if the team wipes in the 3v4 someone can old off long enough for the team to spawn in, even if they don’t survive the fight between the player and the minions leaves the other team low on health. Gank squads don’t really do all that well in the minions the tend to stay to the zones and kill there. When I playing dominion I capture a zone and go straight for the minions, going for that third zone I feel should only be to distract the other team. Example, on the bridge if my whole team is fighting in the zone closes to our spawn in a 3v4 I’ll go all the way to the other teams zone capture it and go to minions, if my team wipes they come to me yeah more then likely I’ll die but now my team can capture the zone the other team has split up because they had to recapture the lost zone and seconds later I join my team and we role through them. Tho what happens is my team decided to get to greedy and goes for the 3rd zone and parks their asses and gets killed in a 3v4 again.Originally Posted by CandleInTheDark Go to original post
Minions I feel are the key in dominion if you look at any map from that point they give you the fastest and easiest routes to each zone, they give you the most points and really it’s the hardest zone to control and gain back if not manned. Someone correct me if I’m wrong but I have had more victories holding 2 areas then I had trying to cap all 3 zones.
Yeah certainly constantly maintaining two zones and getting any extra points is more than enough and I agree that if anywhere the minions is a good place to hold out, my problem tends to be that the rest of my team will fight in home zone, get wiped and leave me 3-4v1 there, it's why I tend to go get the other zone at least as a buffer so we have one until someone presubably re-captures home base while they are dealing with that.Originally Posted by Jedioutcast88 Go to original post
