If that's the case, how come the guy who nicked my work is number one on the arcade with 14,000 plays? All he "changed" was one loadout (and ruined it too) so what gives? Also keep in mind that if a map is re-uploaded with too few changes, it will appear in the workshop category, and won't end up in the map suggestions to be played in Arcade.
On top of that, I seem to no longer be getting any communication back from Ubi, either from my support ticket or the PM I sent JollyCharly days ago.
I'd like to know the answer to this myself.Originally Posted by cliff_easton Go to original post
Are you repeating the same questions that have already been addressed?
Charly says there may be limitations that we aren't aware of; Perhaps locking a map is impossible without releasing the whole game on a new disc.
Can you place the '1st Creator' field below the screenshot or someplace where it's always visible?
Can a Blacklist be added to each user's account where they can 'mute' or block maps by name and creator?
Basically make the map-cleanup visible by the individual client
Or perhaps the true solution is to remove the rating system all together. Doom, Duke, Unreal, Quake, Command & Conquer, Warcraft, Starcraft, Worms Armageddon.. the old games never had any ratings apart from word-of-mouth in the communities. People got known by their username and art style. But since games now include Ratings and Likes, people are cutting themselves because they don't have 5 stars and ALL TEH VOTEZ.
Well then... get rid of the votes. Maybe the 'map theft' would decrease once users stop getting high off of a visual reward on their map's statistics.
Let's get back to playing maps for fun, as opposed to acting all selfish and entitled.

sorry I didn't answer your PM yet. I must say I don't check them very often, I wouldn't recommand to contact me there, it won't be the most efficient. If you have urgent question or request, you can contact us to the mailing list farcrycommunity@ubisoft.com
if you address the email to me, I'll answer, otherwise it might be answer by any one from our community team that you see in these forums.
I had a look at both maps, and in terms of stats, your map is still doing better.
and you can see that this person published another map he called "personal WW2 street fight". I can't know for sure his intentions of course, but I think it proves that he took example of your map to create a personal version of it. And maybe he republished the map with the same name as yours by mistake, or just because he's new to the Editor and didn't really know what to do, trying out to publish maps.
You have one map that has been featured. A copied map will never be featured. So here too you have an advantage compared to someone that is new to the editor, see a map they love, and upload it to try to understand better how it works, iterate, modify.
As for the workshop category, I asked our QC team to have a look if there is a bug with the map or if it legitimely arrived in Arcade because enough changes have been made.

even if I understand it's not easy to take on, map builders are not our only players. As a production, we have to make decisions that will have a positive impact on the most players at the same time. And it's never possible to make everyone happy.
In this specific case, the vision of the dev team is to make of the Editor an "open source" tool. And this is also one of the easiest way to onboard new users and help them become great map builders too. As you said, after launch, the number of player always drops, especially on games like Far Cry that are more solo campaign focused.
So "fresh blood" is very important long term to keep developping Arcade and facilitate the creation of new content.
We built a very powerful Editor with FC5, an Editor that I think, despite the inevitable issues, made all the veteran map builders very happy.
but it also means that it's getting harder to start building maps, and if we want the community of map makers to grow, we have to think about both veterans and new comers.
So when you say "all map makers are not ok with it", you actually mean "all map makers that are vocal members of the well established community". And this is far from being "all map makers".
this is true, though I didn't want to point it out ^^ but legally, all maps are Ubisoft properties. Strictly legaly speaking, there can't be any map stealing anyway.Basically Ubisoft wants map creators to get in the mindset that unrestricted collaborative work should be the norm. Maps aren't STOLEN (technically maps are owned by Ubisoft and map makers transfer all their rights of use over to Ubisoft), they are improved/iterated upon by another creative mind who brings something else to the table. And when a map is republished with minimal changes, it gets sent to the workshop category.
If we take ps4 Toys Room for example, browsing the Arcade website shows a few dozen copies. However, searching for Toys Room by map name on the site also includes Workshop based maps, increasing the copy count to 114+. So, the game considers about 24 'reiterations' are good, and the rest won't be suggested to players.
Perhaps it would help map makers, to know the play/stats on all maps they published AND were at the base of. Even though gameplay wasn't as they intended, the spirit of the original creator still lingers in a copied map.
I personaly think that the real issue is not as much the fact of having copies of your maps (I'm using a general "you" here), but that some copies could get better traction and compete with the original map.
And I can completely understand how infuriating it is. For now, the lobby system didn't help much, but with the Lobby Browsers that are planned for next Title Update (still could change, but that's our objective), I think it will make it easier for map builders to promote their maps and increase their visibility.
And it's a virtuous circle, more your map is played, more it gets ratings, more it's visible, more it's played, etc.
For solo maps, promotion of your maps shouldn't be overlooked either. I'm not saying everyone should have a Youtube channel, but there is a pretty tight map builders community, with facebook groups, Discord, where you can share your maps, ask help from your peers. And that's an advantage that new comers don't have.
overall, I understand where you all come from, but looking at the bigger picture, I don't think that what you suggest is the best course of action.
I don't say that what we have right now is the best solution, and it definitely requires a good brainstorm. But I think it's better than preventing copies.
Thank you UBI Jolly your answer is good and help players understand things in general!
UBIJOLLY-As you said, after launch, the number of player always drops, especially on games like Far Cry that are more solo campaign focused.
Yes thats right FC had allways very good solo campaing. But now in FC5 we see the best map editor ever made in gaiming history!!!!!!
I think that is a businees oportunity to UBI and nice thing to players. Mayebe next FC6 have two focuses campaign and multiplayer, and support for that is powerful Map Editor.
I ma shure that FC series players agree to pay more for FC6 if FC6 have a very good multiplayer to. UBI can make FC series on top of sandboxs games- focusing to campaign and multiplayer.
Sorry to bump this but of course the problem still persists, it would be good if Ubi could to not tolerate it anymore (for Far Cry 6) the fact that a user can upload a copy of a map and spam it with no changes.
Copies everywhere on the top rating, taking slots of original maps which makes the community of average player look dumb by upvoting blatant copies, and Ubisoft doing nothing against makes the situation look even dumber, this kind of vicious circle has to stop, really.
Look at this guy lately : https://far-cry-arcade.ubi.com/fr-fr...9-4d007ddd09fe
And this is just an example, there are plenty of these, so please Ubisoft, take care of this problem for your next far cry game.![]()
Ubisoft is pretty Hands-Off ; that being don't let other people's actions ruin your creativity. Someone liked it enough to steal it, and while the safeguards are not really in place; that should mean something to you as an artist.
This isn't about street cred, or claiming ownership. Ubisoft owns everything as it is, so do me a favor and don't stop creating maps because of a few bad actors.
We can't stop the blackhats but we can lead by example.
Cheers!
PS: Think about it, had you not reinstalled would you have anything to be outraged by today?
One of the best compliment you can have as a mapmaker is that the other mapmakers would take inspiration from you, keep the engine of creation vivid by continuing the legacy, just like you did yourself before, this is the best healthy situation for creativity.Originally Posted by Heath_Deadger Go to original post
When you play something you find cool, a triple A, an indie game, or an arcade map, sometimes you think that it's so great that the energy you get at those times needs to be sent back in some way.
That's why i make maps, and will still do but i can only feel sorry for those who just upload something already made, it just doesn't make any sense.
There should be a lock on maps. Also should only be one map published of that map unless a different game mode or solo/co-op or multiplayer. Also if the owner makes that map and publishes it and later fixes bugs should be a over-write. Not add another same map more less to the pool of maps.
It opens up pages for more well deserved buried maps. Heck bad enough seeing a million versions of Nuke Town. Heck if all the copied versions of NUKE town were never there. The pages be more interesting. Heck back when I looked into the map pool I seen like same map with 3 or 4 version since the mapper was clueless and had "work in progress" or some crap.
Learn to beta test before publishing. Case closed. Don't waste our time with a million versions of your maps. But this is UBISOFT were dealing with here. Better off watching paint dry then buy FAR CRY 6.
The few maps I made. They were 1 map 1 publish. Beta test it and run around and jump around see if any bogus climb features to get out of the map and what not. Heck my COD BOG map I beta tested that how many days. I found plenty of bugs like the invisible door way I couldn't enter.
Also I could climb on the container and tank and jump over the fence with a perfect jump. So I fixed all that. Also I was first on the forums that found out about using to much FX to the point a explosion doesn't even show up on the screen. Only hear it. So I had to delete a ton of FX to fix that.
UBISOFT never even replied to my ticket about FX bug. I figured it out on my own.
In the next iteration of the arcade, I think we should have the option of setting our own loadouts and game settings as separate preference files. I mean, you open up Galactic Star and decide that you want everyone to just have rockets and grenade launchers. So you create a custom Loadout called rockets and grenades and when you choose the map Galactic Star, you then under game settings choose your own loadout. Halo Reach did this where the map settings could be oerridden with an outside file.
The settings file would also take care of kill count, time limit, gravity, health, and team settings. The settings Creator name would also be visible in the lobby so if you want to be sure you were using Nasty Nate's map with Nasty Nate's modified settings, you will see that before the round begins and as the game is loading.
So instead of having a hundred copies of Toys Room, you have a couple with # different settings files that users could download, share, and edits to their hearts' content. Another prime example is when people remake maps from other games like GoldenEye, but then have to upload 10 copies of the map for the different loadouts.
So basically just make Far Cry 6 to use Halo Reach's map and settings way ^_^.
> For the portion about copying Maps, maybe include more information about the original author in the description such as the date it was first published and which system it's from.
> Add the Trials biking game option of clicking a button to go directly to all maps created by that user. So if you find a map in the arcade that says creator Jolan, first creator truesurviva1, then you can click one of the analog sticks (or highlight his name) to go straight to Truesurviva1's map list and play the original instead.
