I have no problem with people downloading ANY map and seeing how it's made or making changes to suit themselves as long as it's on their system only. It's the RE-PUBLISHING that needs to stop. I see no logical reason for this. How in the world do you think this is passing on knowledge? The WORKSHOP was suppose to catch these maps but it is only getting some of them. The result is the Top Rated List gets cluttered up with copies and copies of copies.
To echo the issue. Downloading maps and accessing them offline isn't the issue. The issue is allowing players to re-upload them. Block the ability to do this and your issue is gone. If username of original creator does not match the username of who is uploading then it blocks this from happening.
This seems like something that could be accomplished by the Dev team.
i cant help to respond on the fact that theft can not be stopped . in nfs payback the editor is also present for making decals also everyone can download them and see the build but the big diference is you can download but you can in no way uplod the same decal. even if you edit it the ownerschip remains to the original designer .
I do see the potential and fun of multiple creators working together on the same map. Removing republishing completely, will effectively also prevent these collaborative builds on consoles.
It'd be unfortunate if that were to happen, hence why I advertised the report map feature instead. I believe that's the best possible compromise; everything will remain the way it is now, except creators who want their copies deleted can exercise their right by reporting maps for removal. And these reports can be handled automatically without any effort from Ubi's side; just instantly remove a map when the reporting player is the same as the map's original creator.
I know my suggestion is less than ideal (requiring creators to actively monitor maps for copies). But without a compromise somewhere, I think nothing will happen at all.
I'm fine with the download map option. Ive done it myself to see how someone did something in a map. But ive never re-uploaded someone elses map. Theres just no satisfaction in it for me personally.
If re-uploading is to be allowed perhaps the re-upload should just go straight to the Workshop regardless of changes or no changes, that way we dont have multiple copies sitting on Top Rated spots (Nuketown, Above the Clouds, Beyond Wind and Water for obvious examples).
I agreed it is frustrating to see lazy copies on top rated. I always leave those maps dislikes. However, my friends and I collaborate on maps, we are in full contact with each other and we give each other FULL permission to build on each other’s maps. We add a lot to each other’s maps and none of our collaborations are lazy mods. Removing the ability to upload other people’s maps would also hurt those of us who like to work together and combine our talents to make even better maps. I feel Steve’s suggestion is the best option here. Yes it will require people to police but it will cut way down on lazy copies. I make mostly solo maps but I do like to work with a few friends on maps too. I really hope you guys can understand where I am coming from.Originally Posted by DarkHed1985 Go to original post
By the way I have had many lazy mappers make lazy mods of my maps and I do not approve of that. So giving me the option to delete it those maps would be appreciated. Ubisoft, If you do end up offering us this option someday, can you also put a way for us to easily search any map of ours that has been uploaded by someone else? Thank you
I think it's safe to assume Ubisoft has no intention of doing ANYTHING about map theft. What we have is the way it's going to stay. With all the other problems they are having attempting to get the game and Arcade to work properly, this problem is way down at the bottom of the "to do" list, if it is on the list at all. Our only chance(for those on PC) is a PRIVATE MOD that prevents Map Theft like I was using in FC4. It would have to be a PRIVATE MOD... a PUBLIC MOD won't work.
I totally agree.Originally Posted by AKAFootloose Go to original post
After some experiences in FC4, I'll publish not even one more map, which can be republished easily with small changes.
What Steve Botter suggested above - reporting maps for removal - is in my opinion not realistic. It would need steady manpower on the side of Ubisoft. I don't believe that this is the right way.
With my 42 years programming experience, it should be easy to put a checkbox in the upload dialog of the editor ("prevent reuploading") and in addition setting some "hidden flags" inside the map file to prevent uploading, if it is not the original creator. This would not have any effect on working with more than one person on a map, but would prevent map stealing.
And: this discussion would have an end!
