Ok, so let me preface this by saying that I love For Honor. I've been playing almost daily since the Beta, there really is no other game like it. I cannot, however, remain silent any longer on the multitude of problems plaguing this game as i am simply bewildered by the lethargy (or general apathy) of the developers.
Second Preface: I play on console at a reasonably high level. (Console has largest player base and I am a member of one of the most successful clans - of which i joined simply becasue the game is no longer fun alone which ill detail ast to why further on)
General
Dominion and Matchmaking
- It is no secret this is the most played game mode by a very wide margin. (Does it not then stand to reason that the game should be balanced more towards this mode?)
- Due to matchmaking issues, Dominion is virtually unplayable without a team. (Hence why I joined a clan). This must be improved to match randoms with randoms, every other game can do it, but I wonder if its perhaps too late and the playerbase is now too small.
- Revenge is a mess and needs reworking. On some characters it is barely useful while for others it is OP, such as Warlord GB and ledge through any attacks or zerker just going ape****.. Activation delay needs to go as does the CC interrupt.
- Maps are badly designed for the most part. Its a big ask for these to be made larger or redesigned but the current layouts promote ganking and/or toxic playstyles. A good example is Overwatch, due to all the pits and ledges the team with the most warlords always wins. Its become a clan tactic and its basically a farce.
- Gank squads - This is partly due to bad map design, partly due to poor teamwork from the enemy and partly due to how points are made. Boosting zones should absolutely give more points than kills and leaving a zone should revert it to neutral after a short time.
Feats
I'll admit, this subject gets me salty. The ENTIRE community have complained of feats being OP for a very long tme and we have not had a single round of proper balancing. Can the devs answer why? Surely an intern could reduce the damage and radius of bombs and catapults, or do it gradually over a few weeks until the community agrees. Fear itself and Poison blades are op, Kensei unblockable is op, Rocksteady is op.....the list goes on. At the very least , could we have feats disabled for the period when either team is breaking? Let the fight end with a god damn fight rather than the current nuke bs.
Ranked
Nobody plays ranked. It arrived too late, was poorly designed and gave crappy rewards. Tournament style events are totally unncessary, these should simply be ladder matches. Additionally, why not a 'winner stays on' type of event - these always give great kudos and incentive to play to either win X games in a row or knock the winner of their perch.
Hero's (Note - Any suggestions I make are targeted at 4v4 which is the highest popularity game modes)
Raider - Poor in 1v1, good in 4v4. His stunning tap mixup needs the undodgeable property and he needs something extra to help him. However, care needs to be taken not to overbuff as his stampede charge alone makes his excellent in dominion. Add in his target switching zone to make it unparryable and Raider is currently a beast in fours.
Warlord - A tricky one. Warlord certainly isn't bad 1v1 but again due to ledging potential can be a beast in dominion, especially in revenge. A warlord at C on either High Fort or Overwatch is untouchable. He is however, limited and pretty boring to play as, and against.
Valkyrie - She has a good kit, a few tweaks with recovery, damage and chains and she will be excellent.
Bezerker - This guy is currently a nightmare for anyone to face. I feel he was overbuffed and the HA on his first feinted light should go. There is no way to fight a zerker without turtling due to his trades so by giving him attacks to break the turtle meta they are at the same time reinforcing it for anyone facing him.
Shaman - It is Shamans expansive kit which makes her strong and on release she was op. I don't feel she is op now, however the tracking on jump attacks could be tones down a touch and the damage of pounce nerfed slightly. She should also not get guaranteed pounce on GB.
Warden - A lot of people (including myself) have not forgiven or forgotten the Warden of seasons 1 and 2 whom spammed SB until the ends of time, and hence we don't really mind that warden is currently rather poor. I have no ideas for this hero that don't involve SB so ill leave it for others to comment.
Conqueror - I believe the rework went too far. SB is overused and over abused. I understand making it slower would kill the hero but there must be other ways to make him less reliant on it. Also, his zone is absolute bs. No other hero has a zone with superior block and its a get out of jail free card for any mix ups. Keep the zone, lose the superior block.
Peacekeeper - finally, FINALLY she received a nerf! (Erm, 'rework). Possibly the laziest rework of all time but still. The community had been crying out for nerfs for A YEAR, can the devs please answer why it took so long? Don't get too excited, PK is still very strong with her dodge game, feints and absolutely ridiculous option-select zone which is apparently never getting reworked.
Lawbringer - I can't be impartial on this one, I HATE lawbringers. Yeh yeh hes weak, yadda yadda, well let me tell you, theres a reason theres always at least one or two in dominion and thats becasue hes ****ing strong in fours. The huge health pool, the impaling charge, the ridiculous bombs and the holy-how-did-that-pass-testing shove-on block make him a real headache. He is oppresive and unfun to fight against, the ultimate turtle. (Why is shove on block still a thing, possibly the single most backwards-designed mechanic in the entire game - it has to go!)
Centurion - Not sure what to say about Cent really, another hero thats simply anti fun. His cut scene is ridiculous and his stamina pool and stamina drain is too much. Hes not that strong but any buffs would potentially tip the scales. Ubisoft really screwed this game with the dlc heros...
Kensei - Has a lot in his kit and is pretty strong, but has bad matchups vs Conq and WL and is failry slow in his mixups,. Not op in my view but a strong hero. Unblockable feat should go.
Nobushi - Reworked to be average or just above, no way to open a turtle and her lights are parry bait due to the animations. Hidden Stance however is incredibly powerful when used correctly so not usre what she needs.
Shugoki - needs complete rework. Has anyone ever had fun fighting a Shug? Nope didn't think so. Oppressive to fight due to the constant Hyper Armour which is unhealthy for thr game and has to go as apart of a larger rework.
Shinobi - This guy is in the wrong game and im sorry Shinobu fanboys, For Honor would be a better game without him. Again, opressive to face due to extreme turtling at range, dictating the pace of every engagement. His damage output is waaaaay overtuned and a single deflect can take half your health. Ranged GB from offscreen is a death sentence in dominion. Not op, just doesnt belong.
Orochi - So they reworked Orochi but gave him no way to open turtles, but spammable lights - good job! On console, his lights are borderline unreactable and throw in a few feints (which most arent bothering wth now as they done need to) and hes a real pain. Riptide is lightning fast, I bait that thing and still cant parry it followed up by 2 more lights or more and my health is gone in 5 seconds. #lazyrework
Aramusha - The For Honor community complained for some time abut light spam in the game so what did the brainbox's at Ubi do? That's right folks, they added a hero whose entire moveset is light spam! Seriously, you cant make this up and proves how out of touch the developers are from the community. Ara needs a buff but I'm so miffed by his existence I canr be bothered to suggest one.
So my main gripes are unreactable light spam, feats, dominion points but mainly the snails pace at which the developers are making changes. The last two reworks were lazy at best. They are adding new things without fixing existing issues, its like a kid whose bored with his old toys so keeps moving on to new ones.
And yes, i'm fully aware there are people out there who can parry every light, dodge every bash and I should just 'git gud'. But to you guys I say this, you are gods amongst men and the majority of us mere mortals simply cant. I don't want everything to be 100 per cent reactable as we'd be back to the turtle meta, but there are times when I preferred that to the current assassin/light spam meta (console). Separate platform balancing should be on the wish list just as dedicated servers once were.
