I was one of those complaining bitterly yesterday. Then I went home, spent a few hours playing, and guess what? I actually enjoyed it more than I have in quite some time.
Why? Because variety. Before, when random players were chosen to select maps, they would invariably pick the same maps over and over and over. Then when it was your turn to pick a map, if you decided to choose one of your own maps, you had to cross your fingers that Shovel Dodgers, Small Soldiers, Toy Room, Above the Clouds, or Between Wind & Water didn't come up against yours, or you had to beg and plead for others to pick your map.
Yeah it kinda sucks not being able to pick your own map in public match. But looking at it from just a player perspective, we've never had this much variety in the public matches.
Last night, I played for a few hours, and during that time, I think I only saw one single Ubisoft "featured" map, that being Between Wind & Water (guess which one got voted on that time). But every other option was a map that I had never seen before, some highly rated community map.
I actually had a lot more fun than I expected.
Yes we still need more options to play our maps with other people, and from what Ubisoft announced, they're working on that.
But at least try the new public matchmaking, give it a couple hours, before we start demanding they bring the old system back.
I released a map yesterday and it’s had almost 400 plays since, I’ve also had another map get over 200 plays in the last 2 days so that is very cool.
Tho I do often see two nuketowns in the options which should not be happening. I’m glad they turned the variety up but it doesn’t seem too inclusive and I don’t see why they couldn’t have made these choices better while at the same time providing map picking option for those who want it.
