I'm a new player, started playing during free weekend and bought the game right after cause I thought (and I still do) that the game was fun and enjoyable. First weeks were fun and interesting, every game I played felt like none of us could actually win, they were all even matches. After yesterday's update (may 24) everything has changed. I don't care if I have to wait 5 more minutes to get into a match, but I don't want to get buried after people being 15prestige lvls ahead of me. And I'm not buying the git gud stuff, because it's literally impossible for a new player like me to understand in a few matches how feints and parries work. I went from trying to win to try not to die in the first 6 seconds of the duel, it's neither fun or enjoyable. And I'm pretty sure it's the same for higher lvl people, having to face people like me who know basically nothing about the game: they just feint every single attack, preventing me from even try to block one. I've had matches were I literally never attacked my enemy. Currently I'm prestige 3, and In two days I've won literally 2 matches out of a total of 20. In the last weeks I had a win ratio of 50% roughly.
i know that new ppl having a hard time to pick up everything in the game , i just say keep on going and learn and watch how higher lvl ppl are fighting ,if u see some moves that u dont understand go in the practice and try to find it out and as the more u will play the more u will learn.
best way to learn is pvp.
gear dont matter in duel and is only for visual show off so no matter what gear they gave , everyone fight with default stats.
BUT i feel youre pain , everyone needed to go true that stadium.
also the DEVS said that they are "testing" and see how the matchmaking is working so changes can still be made in the future.
good luck.
I'm well aware of the fact that gear doesn't matter in this game, my complain is their actual skill. I've had a match against a Kensei that feinted every single hit, I got to a point where I didn't know wether or not he actually wanted to attack me or not. It's frustrating as a new player to get toyed with, especially considering that the first few weeks I felt like I was understanding the game.Originally Posted by BunnyBuggs Go to original post
I can relate to that problem. At some point my (PVP) mmr seems to have jumped into a stupid height, even though i have pretty mediocre stats, ~50% Winrate and <1.0 KD on all heroes. Something is seriously wrong if the same matchmaker who hesitates to give me lvl2 bots in PvI has no problem dropping people into my PvP matches who can parry 9 out of 10 light attacks thrown at them.
It would propably help if Ubi changed the priorities to make balanced games >>> waiting time, especially with regard to groups. Half the ****shows i found myself in lately where due to premades with or without smurfs. There are more than enough of them, no need to throw solo players in between.
Is there a way to actually identify premades as such in the setup? Its kinda ******ed to join as #5 and have the game started only to see that im going to play with 3 bots against a gank circus featuring 3 smurfs.
now that you've mentioned it I have the same icons popping since last update.Originally Posted by ONYX_x5 Go to original post
Aside from the temporary connection issues, or better the popping packet loss icons, which do not seem to affect my game at all curiously, I was in the a similar situation.. but after the launch of the game. I unterstand my few heros and their techniques, but there is always an asian or person of random nationality better than me. And there are a lot of them, regardless of their actual reputation.
And still, after playing this game more than a year, I personally am not great agains many other players. It's hard to explain, but it's still fun, even if destroying every other opponent could be fun, too.
What I did after realizing, that I suck after a few weeks: I played a huge chunk of my 1k hours playtime in training mode. First alone with an enemy, who doesnt hit back. Just to "feel" my hero, to memorize his movements into my muscles to build the muscle memory. Then I went up to bot lvl3 with specific heros, which were a huge pain in my butt, to get the feeling for the moves, which totally destroy me every time.
Perfect early example: the three light hit combo from Valkyrie. They got me every, single time, I wanted to cry. But after staying cool, practising over and over again, now maybe (!) one of those hits get through, but at least the second one gets parried, not blocked. And those come in pretty fast as light attacks. But realising, that many parts of this game aren't based on pure reaction, rather than knowing, whats coming and reacting to 99% foreseeable hits the right way.. it was like a little enlightment. In this case I cant just move my guard in the direction of the attack, and then press heavy attack, it has to happen at the same time, because they are so fast. It's half reaction (the direction) and half foresight (the second light). And a light parry opens up the opponent like nothing else.
Practise agains lvl 3 bot, which give you a hard time, practise as long as it takes, to beat the lvl 3 bot several times in a row, and I guarantee you, that you will do better against human opponents, even if they play different than the bots. And another thing, I learned: Even if I'm almost rep 90 with all my heroes together (one of them is rep 38 atm), I still suck a lot of times against players, who dig the game way better than me and aren't even a third of my total rep.
Any last words? uhm, yes: don't lose the fun playing this game. For me personally, a lot of fun results out of outfitting my hero / heroine, getting nice looking gear, playing with friends or randoms mindless gear grinding sessions against bots and playing in custom games against my friends (a lot of them I found through for honor) and practising with them in custom games my heroes.
That's enough for me. I don't compare my personal skill with the skill of those perfect fighting players, we face off both. I just enjoy getting better with my heroes against my friends, completing orders with freinds faster and faster and finding out new strageties. Aaaand earning steel to buy all this sweet vanity stuff ^^ Don't take this game too serious, but continue to be ambitious, hav fun with what you enjoy and be astonished by players, who actually ARE pros and playing this game like gods.. (sometimes I'm still impressed, how good some players are.)
Best regards, cheers,

Good advice Hammelsneid, the issue In having now as many players are too is that the matchmaking ping times have increased significantly & have rendered blocking useless. Practicing vs a lil 3 bit is great with no lag, but is unfortunately impossible to deal with vs lagging human players. Now the meta is light attack spam, especially with Orochi & Peacekeeper rework. Whoever gets off their light attack chain first & multiple dodge attacks is usually winner. That's 1v1 but in Dominion it's Gank unblockable, staggering spam rinse repeat.
Another observation recently with the matchmaking is that it seems like opponents are much better than my teammates so it is even harder for players to get better since they find themselves getting ganged on by superior opponents and have no chance to learn more or new skills or strategy. This is very discouraging for new players to learn get better and enjoy the game. There should be a way to mix up the team's every match especially solo. Seems like something that could be done to give a better experience.
