Public lobby changes
Removed “Pick a map” phase from Public Lobbies: maps are now automatically picked from “Featured”, “top rated”, plus a “Replay map” slot
So if you can't pick your map, how do you get likes? New maps will NEVER get into the rotation as they can never get liked because they will never get picked due to never having been Top Rated, as they can't be rated because they won't be pickable because they aren't rated because they can't get rated because nobody except your friends can upvote them.
So the biggest Troll groups get the votes.
Please reconsider this Far Cry team! It will take the last bit of fun out of this game for a lot of players. We don't want to be force fed the same maps all the time. The whole idea of a map editor is that we can make our own maps and play them online.
..and please bring back an alternative multiplayer mode like capture the bible, domination, uprising, predator or better yet.. a new one! Because playing deathmatches all the time gets boring too even with custom maps. I thought the devs knew this beacuse in earlier Far Cry releases there always were extra multiplayer modes.
Actually we (our group) is thinking some of the update wording is misinterpreted due to language translation and/or not really thought about.. so we're going to wait until the update hits and Ubisoft gets in to work tomorrow.
And IDF, you really ought to update one post rather than filling the forum & threads with your posts :P
If it was a wording error, i think ubisoft would of responded by now. the wording in the notes is correct imo.Originally Posted by JolanXBL Go to original post
Just trying to make sense of this. So spitballing, brainstorming and possibly playing devil's advocate here: it's the BEST IDEA EVER!
Because:
- Players will NEVER have to play low quality/bad maps in standard (public) Multiplayer, nor have to wait for map pickers. No more bugs with the Browser accidentally replacing the picked map with a random other one, this is by design now.
- Communities will NOT have to put up with 12 year olds ruining their multiplayer experience, because they now will have to resort to Private lobbies to play their map.
- Maps initially start in Private, giving creators the chance to test/optimize them before they make it 'out there' in the Public realm.
- There's further emphasis on Arcade Hero to get maps "rated" properly before they actually make their way to the general public.
- If a map is neither featured nor rated well, people should not be confronted with it unless they specifically choose to (Arcade Hero).
So, there's the distinction between the casual (12-year old) players who'll jump into Public matches. And then there's the "hard core fans" who will camp out in Private Lobbies. If only those lobbies could get organized better/have better visiblity. But that's possibly something we as a community will have to organize, for example by picking one single known shared password to host maps.
Perhaps map makers should not make maps to reach a broad audience, but instead for the entertainment of themselves and their friends. If others pick it up, it'll be in the Public Lobby, but if not; who cares?
I believe the private lobby system is only a limitation because not everyone has many friends, and friends aren't all online at the same time. So I think it's time to combine and grow communities (Discords, Facebook groups) and agree on specific Public lobby passwords to allow maps to be played.
For example: "testing" to playtest maps.
Guys wait a second. Before getting super worked up over this let's think about this thoroughly. Ubisoft is trying to make the best MP they can. Let's face it when trying to do arcade challenges and that "featured" achievement it was such a chore to play MP, I hate getting into games with low quality maps that are straight TRASH. They essentially already had this mode with Arcade Hero. If you want to play your map just switch to arcade hero, it will be the same as the public matches before, vote for your map, and politely ask for others to vote it as well. Politely asking a lobby to vote for my map has always worked 85% of the time honestly. So use Arcade hero for random custom playlists and use public match if you really want decent PVP without playing some trash map that was made in 30 minutes.
