I know this may seem stereotypical and as though I am speaking through nostalgia tinted glasses (if I even have any for it as I am twenty and first played it at age fifteen or so) but Far Cry 3 is still my favourite. It had a great story, in it we saw an actual transformation in the main character Jason Brody from scared little rich boy to remorseless jungle warrior. We saw him realize this and ask what he has become and/or done multiple times. The map was also large and interesting to explore. Far Cry 5 is great don't get me wrong but the main character is generic silent protagonist #23,482 and I didn't feel as invested in the story. I admit the gunplay and mission structure is far superior in Far Cry 5. Hell, I've been going back every week for the weekly events, But I still prefer Far Cry 3
That is the sense I am getting.Originally Posted by farameira Go to original post
There was a "rank Far Cry games by their story" article on Kotaku a few weeks ago, and just about the only things people could agree on were that everyone's opinions vary a LOT on this, and that Primal wasn't overall the best.
I wasn't a fan of the Far Cry 3 characters at all, Vaas was massively over-hyped for the largely two-dimensional character he was, and your "friends" were so annoying that I never felt much desire to save any of them. They fixed most of that in 4, the bad guys were actually interesting and relatively complex characters, and the end (particularly when you realise what you've done, and haven't necessarily been making things any better) was perfect. Far Cry 5 tried something similar, and I did like the similar reveal that maybe you've been unknowingly doing something that has cost all the lives you thought you were saving. But the monologuing was far too much, and a pet peeve of mine is where you can "win" in a gameplay segment only to "lose" in the following cutscene - this game did that to you twice at the end, once with the Joseph fight and once with the driving part. They could have achieved the same impact, maybe even improved it, if you'd had the closing conversation with your companions and/or fellow officers in the bunker.
First hands on I didn't like FC5, but since, have become a fan. FC3 use to be my favorite, but lets face it, the game is starting to show it's age.
I guess what keeps Far cry interesting is that with every new one comes new features and with that, new and interesting ways to kill baddies.
After around 10 hours in FC5 it feels as if it may end up being my new favorite. Pity about the DLC, so far it's what I would call a load of old dog ****e. I may buy future FC games, but I will never buy another seasons pass, those things have become day-light-robbery.
Really? Compared to both Far Cry 3's and Far Cry 4's DLC I think Far Cry 5's has already exceeded them, and we still have one left to go. IIRC there wasn't a season pass for 3, but 4's season pass content was very disappointing for single-player content, Valley of Yetis was the only decent one.Originally Posted by Gravelmead Go to original post
While I wish they would include the DLC in the base game, the extra play to ME is well worth the season pass. I didn't find the base FC5 game worth the gold price I paid on pre-order, but that is MY issue with the base game. I actually think the DLC have redeemed the base game so far, and thus are well worth the extra money for them. To each his own, and what we like is all different, but that is my feeling on the DLC and the Season Pass. So I agree the older games content didn't warrant a Season pass price, but FC5 does to me.
