The marketing for this game is completely misleading and actually I believe it is misleading to the point that I would call it a scam. I understand that this isn’t actually a personal trainer so you have to allow for some technical mishaps however, this is no better than a bad workout DVD that I could buy for $19.99. As some people have pointed out already, the ad shows a shadow form in the same box as the camera view correcting your form. Apparently that doesn’t seem to exist in the actually game. Along with showing that image in the commercial it claims to offer “real-time feedback” presumably for the point of correcting form when needed. This also doesn’t happen. Quite often the voice will say things like “oops your arms” “your legs need a little help” “Please watch what I’m doing” or “please refocus your attention to your arms” when it doesn’t detect any movement it does encourage you to start moving, however that is not real-time feedback. People purchased this game because they believed that it would offer suggestions on just how to correct their form during the workout. “Oops your arms” doesn’t tell you what you are doing wrong with them.

The quality of the camera is a huge problem with detecting your moves and I have tried all the recommendations about more lighting, brighter close, and so on. The voice will tell you something is wrong when it seems that you are doing it correctly. Then when you aren’t moving at all or a completely different part of your body moves than the one that it just told you to correct, it says “perfect” or “you’ve really got it now”. And there is a huge lag time in the detection of the moves. I can personally ignore the voice telling me I’m not doing it right because I know most of the time I am, but that totally defeats the purpose of the game since it is supposed to track your progress, calories burned and adjust to your fitness level. And I’m not sure exactly how the game decides to give you new/more challenging moves, but I am under the impression it is largely based on previous performance so if that is the case than it’s hard for me to ignore my score lowering more and more throughout the game when I am doing the move correctly. I also have not been able to find a way to get the camera to see my entire body when I do floor exercises. I have angled it in all different ways and tried different spots on the floor, but I can never get my whole body in the screen. I realize that that isn’t entirely Ubisoft problem, but if the game is not returnable then they really should give you space and TV heights requirements. I have not found that information anywhere as of yet. I have more than enough room to do the workout.

Another huge problem is that there is no instructions during the workout on how to do the moves. It’s great that you can refer to the tutorial, but there should still be instructions during the workout on each exercise. With over 400 exercise it would be impossible to memorize correct form for all of them and people need reminders throughout or they wouldn’t need some form of training help. Not to mention having to stop in the middle of workouts to learn how to perform each exercise doesn’t do a lot for keeping your heart rate up and after all isn’t that the point of exercising? There are going to be a lot of injuries because of that and I wouldn’t be surprised if there was at least one lawsuit because of it. Anyone remember the hot coffee at the drive-through lawsuit. People sue over pretty stupid things and win all the time.

I don’t feel like the game is at all customized for my personal goals. The first time I used it, it did the body scan and then I was asked to highlight the sections of my body I wanted to work on and in what way, but I can’t tell if those choices were saved. I feel like they weren’t. The game never asked how many weeks or months I had to complete my goal. I was also never prompted to input a goal weight and I know I never specifically read that I would be, but I would think that would be an important part of customizing my workouts to help me meet my goal in the time frame I should have been prompted to enter entered.

The last workout I did was supposed to focus on abs. I got two ab exercises throughout the 30 minute routine. One was a plank exercise that I don’t have the balance to do yet. It wanted me to do it three times on each side which probably took about three minutes or so. I tried modifying it so that I was on my knees instead of feet, but it obviously didn’t accept that. Since you can’t skip the exercise and there is no option to do a modified version, I was basically just sitting waiting until it finally moved on to the next exercise. The other ab exercise I got was a side crunch which again I was supposed to do Three times per a side. I can do these, but it just seemed like a lot of the same exercise especially when those were the only two in the whole routine. The rest of the workout was pretty much the same stuff I’ve been doing since I started. At the end of the 30 minutes when the time said 0:00 the workout didn’t stop there was more push-ups and then lunges and when I stopped the game, it told me I didn’t stretch enough. I’ve gotten pretty much all the same moves with an occasional new move thrown in the mix. I basically get all cardio with very few toning exercises mixed in. My main goal is to tone all over. I guess you could argue that you get a new routine each time if you consider the same moves in a different order with one or two new moves added in every couple days. Another inconsistent issue is the breaks. Some days there are not many, just enough to grab a sip of water, but others I will get a break after each move for a series of three or four.

I have a lot of complaints and it may sound like I have high expectations, but the marketing for this game promised all these things and it is just not delivering. If the technology isn’t there for yet fine, but it never should have been marketed as such. People paid a lot of money for this and they deserve better. No one would be as upset if it was returnable, but seeing as it is not, people feel taken advantage of. The main features the game promises in the TV ad’s and on the Your Shape website don’t exist. The Your Shape E3 Trail on the Your Shape website specifically is incredibly misleading as well as the first three features listed on the Learn About the Game page of the Your Shape website. Even if you can ignore all that and use it in the same way you would a workout DVD and a very expensive one at that, it’s almost useless because it is hard to tell if you are doing the same thing as a video game character instead of a human when there are no instructions during the move. It seems like there was no testing done on this game before release and I’m sure that was because of a holiday rush. Ubisoft really needs to fix these problems completely, live up to the promises they made and replace with an updated version or refund people’s money as they completely mislead consumers and falsely represented their product. How about standing behind your product and owning up to your sloppy release, Ubisoft?

Actually you burn more calories by changing heart rate intensity rather than keeping the same intensity throughout.

To "tone" you need to lose weight. That is what the cardio is for. Without losing the fat on top you can't see the "toned" muscles.
