I love this game, but yeah, the ballistics has irked me since the beta, and I always hoped Ubisoft would address this issue. Bullet velocity and drop are way off for pretty much every weapon, and the way tracers are rendered looks almost like something from a '90s arcade shooter.
These things don't have to be 100% accurate given the type of game GRW is, but they do need to be drastically improved. Even now, I'm hoping Ubisoft will finally do something about this.
it's probably for Gamer "Accessibility", ie. newcomers, who may or may not have ever played a Clancy game or even an Open world or CQC 3rd person shooter, so that the frustration level on their part doesn't get bad...
Games need revenue or they die out, But i Hope that once sales climb the game will be evened out as those who play it reach Prestige level and are ready for the change.
Also , a bit OT, but there has been a large spike in R6 Siege, due to the Nature of it's Year 4 Open World Patch, as they are departing from the "Strictly QC" nature of that game and introducing a similar experience to GRWL, albeit with 50 Operators and more or less, more contemporary customization. I have played Siege since release and while i still love it i am sticking to WildLands because of Ghost War, and when i feel like exploring (i'm not generally very patient, not patient enough to trek 2,000m across Bolivia), i will do coop but the coop seem like it could have more team-based structure, like a voting system on which Operation to take on, and a reload system, so that the players can pick spawn points, and leave the "Free-Roam" to solo, but also a spawning system that is completely optonal for the long time players so it doesn't leave them out.
The only reason I can think they did this is to make the game world feel bigger than it really is. In other words like the way day/night cycles are exaggerated in games, they made bullets slower to make them drop more to make med range shots feel like long range shots, but the scopes don't really facilitate long range shots anyway.
However I'm sure it was also to keep shot distance within the limitations of the draw distance and enemy sight. It's one of the quirks of the game that feels out of place and unnecessary. I usually stick to med range shots to keep a tactical view of the enemy positions, but there's times I have to have one of my squad make a long range shot that I'd rather shoot myself.
I just hope they take these criticisms constructively and bring bullet speed and scopes up to more realistic levels in the next GR.
To me, there is no logical explanation for this massive brain fart of a decision. The only logical explanation I can give is that they ran out of time because they were polishing the already beautiful world and they forgot they were making a Shooter (tactical, fantasy, adventure... what-e-ver satisfy you the most), I know most people here care more for visualization than gameplay and while I can enjoy good graphics and beautiful scenery, I also like to shoot with some sort of accuracy at 200m to 300m with an assault weapon and 2x to 4x scope... let alone a sniper rifle.
If I was the Dev Team, I would get off my high horse and turn this bullet drop crap off, they are not fooling anybody into believing this is a semi-realistic shooter, not even 1/4 realistic, hell any type of shooter so, let us Far Cry it if need be but we would enjoy it even more... or perhaps not and I am the only one who thinks so.
It is far from realism... but still fun in a weird way, lining up shots on a running/driving target with bullets that go so slow and so short is kinda challenging. For realistic Ballistics go for ARMA3 (or any in the series) here I guess they tried to represent SubSonic ammo when the suppressor is attached... but when you remove it the velocity does not change, only the bullet travel time :/ Could be improved, but wont happen in a game this "old".
Honestly, the distances come into play logically. Even Sniper Elite Warrior 3 has limitations that are unrealistic as far as how long a shots you can make. The thing is I just don't think they needed to exaggerate to the extent they did. There's no way you need to lower bullet speed to 1/3 what it should be for any reason.
Problem is the “challenge” is half-baked. All that did was completely turn me off from long-range sniping. I should not be a physics major to guess where my bullet will land when sniping.Originally Posted by E4GLEyE Go to original post
I may not know a lot about weaponry but I hardly believe that there could be a comparison between WWII and Modern weapons. I am fine with limitations because it does create a better fantasy that you are a bad *** but within the realm of the game... what we have here is totally the opposite of that fantasy. Here I feel like an FNG out of bootcamp that have been given a make believe weapon until I can get a real one, which sadly, it never comes alone.![]()
