When legendary and rare gear starts to drop? Should I have some particular level or something?

Rare gear drops at Reputation 1, becomes consistent at Reputation 2 and continues to drop at Reputation 3.

Legendary Gear starts dropping at Reputation 7 and becomes consistent at Reputation 8 and up.

If you aren't familiar with Reputation level, you gain a Reputation level on a particular hero for every 20 levels you complete with them.

Rare gear is the second lowest tier and it first starts dropping when your hero is at reputation level 1. Legendary gear is the highest tier and starts dropping when the hero you are playing is at rep 7. Pro tip: hold on to your crates until your hero is Rep 8 and then use them to get only Legendary gear. In the long run it saves you crates as well as steel and salvage spent on upgrading lower tier gear that you will eventually move on from anyway.

Quick note: reputation levels are like prestige levels in other games. In For Honor you go up one Rep level after every normal 20 levels you put into a character. The loot drops for reputation levels are as follows:

Rep 0: Common

Rep 1: Rare and Common

Rep 2: Rare

Rep 3: Heroic and Rare

Rep 4: Heroic

Rep 5: Epic and Heroic

Rep 6: Epic

Rep 7: Legendary and Epic

Rep 8: Legendary.
