Cmon. Within reason. And we’re not talking extreme here, loads of games have you loot dead bodies for ammo and weapons, and we’re talking non ‘hardcore’games.

No one wants infinite ammo buddy!

You want that feeling of being pinned down in a gun fight, down to your last clip.....

GR:W currently DOES NOT OFFER THAT....
I beg to differ there. -- I must be missing something, Coz to me, it sounds like you're over-exaggerating. Walking over a corpse nets you ammo, you're still "looting" (just like every shooter). It doesn't just magically feed you ammo from across the map.

What, do you really want to cop a bullet in the head, because you're stuck in an animation, rummaging around a corpse? Bad enough that even when you apprehend a dude for interrogation, take him 200m away from the hot zone; some enemy manages to sneak up on you, or reinforcements no one called, magically appear..

My point is there is this strange (albeit) popular notion of (philosophical) realism vs reality. They aren't the same thing. Ones pretentious, the other cuts out the BS and sticks to the point.

Last thing I want is GR to turn into SIMS: Ghost Recon edition.

I think your conflating a simple thing with something extreme.

    This is hardly micromanagement!
    This ain’t ARK SURVIVAL ....

I hoover up ammo all the time not even meaning too. It happens all the time. Just running around after a fire fight.
I never run out of ammo on any of my guns! Its total bs.

And I don’t know - I don’t get what you point of reference is...?
Are you coming to this game from playing games like DOOM? Call of Duty?
I’d certainly stick my neck out and speculate that you never played the original GR games...
You would of hated them. It had a timer count down for a variety of actions, when looting weapons, switching weapons, reloading etc to simulate the time it would take you to do these things. So yeah it would make you mindful of your surroundings, cover etc, when performing these actions.

So many other games have you loot dead bodies, Operation Flashpoint, Hidden and dangerous, Sniper Elite, Far Cry, Ghost Sniper Warrior, Dying Light, countless others...

I don’t think anyone who has played those types of games thought “OHHHH SHEEESH... what they gonna do next? simulate me wiping my ar$e??”

    I really don’t think so.

I can only assume you haven’t played many military sims, or more hardcore games.

How many War movies or scenarios have we seen a guy out of ammo, pinned down by enemy fire, and he looks around for ammo off fallen soldiers whilst under fire.

    This is hardly micro-management.

    * It’s about building immersion and tension into the gameplay. *

If you don’t like the sound of those kinds of mechanics - I would say your in the minority on these forums.

But more so - I wanna hear my gun go CLICK - I’ve run out of ammo! Then let me reload manually. I hate this automatic reload.

Sniper Elite 4 has ALL these things. Cmon Ubisoft, this stuff should be standard!
I completely agree with you LaMoi as I know many others would who have expressed interest in more of these components in the game since development.

You still only have a max ammo you can carry. I'm not the one missing a point here; you ARE over-exaggerating. You don't want it to auto-reload, after you run out of ammo and pick some up.. what difference does it make?

That said, your entire argument can be solved with a simple option to "disable automatic reloading" and "Disable auto-puckup".

The only thing popular around here, is miscomprehension and miscommunication. I've only ever said to be careful of using the word "realism". Not that I'm against intuitive (therefore "realistic") measures in the game. Maybe if people like yourself treated their own ideas as less of "a dog with a bone", you might get that, huh?

I disagree with you that silly little things like this is what GR is about. It's what purely single player games are about. This game is not one. This game is the closest GR (since the original) yet though. -- What made GR great and different from most games, was the Tactical Overview map (TacMap). That wouldn't work in this game. However, a more active tactical system would achieve the same thing and is also a chance to overhaul the AI, which frankly, may as well BE the original game! Lol

The last thing I want, given the oppressive enemy AI (in T20-1) is more stupid impositions, especially when engaged, in those rare times I actually run out of ammo. I like the fact my character has a brain and will forage ammo and prepare his loadout for battle readiness when in transition inbetween hops (It's what I would do, so makes sense). I don't want, nor need control over that, because it's unrealistic in the context of the game.

The ONLY valid realism in this 'game' is actively achieving objectives. Not all this stupid nonsense when transitioning. The game just isn't built that way. You don't have that kinda interface with the virtual environment for that to make sense in order to be actively forced into managing that. In your head, is far different than in practice.

Firstly, I really don’t know why you keep going on about how I’m ‘exaggerating’ — I telling you I have NEVER run out of ammo in this game.
And I really don’t think my experience there is unique.

Secondly, Given that so many other games already have this mechanic and it works just fine I really don’t get what you problem is? Why it seems so extreme or non-sensical?

Sniper Elite 4 — actually copies the old GR concept.
When searching dead bodies there’s a circle timer that counts down.

It’s an intentional design. It’s risk vs reward.
The mechanic forces a point where the player IS vulnerable, so one must be mindful of surroundings and possible enemy attack when committing to the search.

It works fine. It adds tension. And I would say it adds realism.
I’ve never been shot during this ‘action’ because I’m careful and mindful of what’s going on around me.

But if you prefer magically hoovering up up ammo as you run over it — then hey, fair enough.

I know most folks on this forum don’t..... Including myself.

    I would like an option.

Read the whole thread! Even a freakin Moderator — GETS IT!

So I really don’t think it’s a mechanic that people think is stupid.

I can’t believe I’m having to defend such standard mechanic that’s incredibly common and in a lot of other games....

I can't believe you're so focused on a lack of absolute agreement and not really paying attention to a word I'm saying. That's what I can't believe. Like I said, "a dog with a bone".

    Options:
    • Disable auto-reloads
    • Disable auto-pickup

    That's you, problem solved.

Aside from that, I'm avoiding a debate about other games, because I only care about this one. If they didn't do stupid time wasting things, I'd probably care about them too. -- Just the way it is bro, don't hate me.

The thing I'm trying to get across to people is stop making suggestions that potentially globally affect the game. Make suggestions for options so those that want them are the only ones affected.

As with so many elements in game....auto pick up should be an option too.

I deliberately don't upgrade the ammo capacity skill to ensure I have minimum ammo and even then I've never managed to run out of ammo to chuck at UNIDAD.

    Agreed.

    To have the option —-

    - Disable auto-reloads
    - Disable auto-pickup

    And I’m happy. 👍

Guessing you hated or would hate the mechanic in the Last of Us where you had physically take off your back pack, to craft items in real time - which purposefully made the player vulnerable to attack?

Metro Exodus has a similar mechanic. And many other similar mechanics that attempt to add realism, but make things feel more grounded, more immersive, add tension... etc.

These types of mechanics I feel change the nature of moment to moment gameplay - to make the player more connected with his actions, and ultimately more immersed.

But I guess it’s not for everyone.

    Ps. I don’t hate you. 😎

I don't do stupid things like that in the first place. There is a time and a place for everything. -- But yah, disliked TLOU period, tbh.

Thing is this: I did this for 20yrs (half my adult life) and screw piss-farting around with that in a game. -- I'll never judge anyone who indulges; as long as I'm not forced to. I'm good!
