I have seen a lot of suggestions that this class needs nerf, or that class does...and from what I can see this is the problem: Classes that can start unblockables and then feint them end up doing this cheesy tactic and it makes them OP.
Now I have been practicing HEMA for 17 years. I fight and train Rapier, Saber, Broadsword and Board, Longsword, and Spear styles.
My biggest gripe, and one I think makes the classes that are most commonly considered "OP" is the fact that unblockable attacks can be feinted. Feinting an unblockable turns into this cheesy meta. It forces you to parry (because a simple block is not viable to defend yourself) and then a feint guarantees you fall for it. This leads to some seriously cheesy metas with classes that can easily do unblockables.
My fix for this is that unblockable attacks SHOULD NOT be feintable. The logic behind this is that a Heavy Attack that can punch through an opponents guard/block has all your power behind it. This is an all out power heavy attack. That being said, there is NO WAY you should be able to withdraw such an attack mid swing and make it a feint...and even if you could it should take as much stamina as the original attack to alter its course and feint it.
PLEASE MAKE UNBLOCKABLE ATTACKS NON-FEINTABLE!!!
This is a good idea on paper, but it would make unblockables completely useless, since they will be parried 100% of the time.
BUT unblockable softfeints should definitely go. Im fine with opponents hardfeinting (with "cancel" input) unblockables because it gives you enough time to react, but shaman like unblockable softfeints into GB are indeed cheesy as hell.
I would be willing to say that unblockables that can't be feinted might need buffs to their speed timing, so they are harder to parry, but should still be parry-able.
It borders on an exploit that they are feintable. It also completely unreasonable, no attack that you put so much power behind that it goes THROUGH someone elses defense can realistically be feinted. It's simply not possible.
Many classes can do this unblockable feint trash, the Kensai probably being the worst.
Ideally they should be slow on the start, as a heavy attack with a lot of power behind it telegraphs the movement more and takes more of a wind-up, then upon release it should be slightly faster than that classes usual heavy attack, as more power adds to the speed. Once released it CANNOT be feinted.
If anyone has any kind of martial arts experience they should see the logic behind my argument, hopefully those who don't can see it as well, and those that are biased because they play an unblockable feint trash style should try and see that my suggestion would make the game more balanced and realistic.
Currently the unblockable feinting is basically an exploit that makes no reasonable sense. It is an advantage that some classes can exploit and others simply cannot. If a class is able to use an attack that has the BENEFIT of being unblockable there should be a BALANCED DOWN-SIDE, and that is that they have to commit to that attack and not be able to feint it.
