Suggestion: "Hardcore" Difficulty Mode?
The world is weak. Soft. We have forgotten what it is to be strong.
I've been enjoying Farcry 5 quite a lot, but the difference in difficulty levels compared to previous entries in the series, and to other shooters, is quite apparent. There's too much hand-holding and forgiveness, even on "hard". I'd like to offer a few suggestions for another difficulty mode, in the (unlikely) event Ubi decides to amend the campaign to give players a real challenge, and an experience worthy of the tough-as-nails, survivalist character of Hope County.
Disable all markers and indicators: No enemy tags, no ally tags, no world icons, and definitely no awareness indicators. These should have all been "off" by default on hard mode! The ability to essentially see through walls and telepathically detect when enemies see you makes things way too easy!
No health regen/limited regen: This ain't Call of Duty! Just like FC2, the ability to fully heal yourself should only be available by using medkits, with the player character only able to partially and slowly regenerate their health, or not at all.
Better equipped enemies: NPCs and Peggies should have access to every weapon the player does, it's pretty boring having everyone armed with AR-Cs and 1911s. This might lead to issues with players not needing to buy weapons in the shop, perhaps they could only be customized once "purchased" in the shop? If weapon degradation was back, this wouldn't be an issue. I actually liked that mechanic...
Permadeath for followers: It's a bit silly how your followers can keep getting mowed down and picked up again pretty much ad infinitum. Like the buddies in FC2, they should only have a limited number of times they can get downed before they're gone for good.
No fast travel/limited fast travel: Disable it, or limit it to certain points in the map similar to how FC2 did it.
Reduced Resistance Meter: The Resistance meter should advance half as quickly as it does now. Completing a region before you've even done a quarter of the available missions is was too easy to do. The final confrontation with each region's Herald should only be possible once all outposts have been liberated.
Reduced spawns / lowered sell values: the spawning in this game is wack. I can't count the number of times I've liberated a prisoner van, only to have another important cult vehicle spawn right behind me after! This makes farming RP way too easy, please tone down these spawns! Similarly, valuable animals spawn very frequently as well, making farming skins for money and breaking the game a piece of cake. Perhaps the skins should be worth less in this mode, or make it more difficult to take down an animal without getting a damaged skin.
Crafting revamp: Crafting items should cost 2x the number of ingredients, as the game practically throws them at you at all times. My inventory is almost always full and certainly not due to a lack of trying. As well, explosives like dynamite should not be available to be crafted right off the bat without any perks.
It's a lot of stuff in that list, but I think these changes wouldn't be too hard to implement, and create a much more challenging and rewarding gameplay experience, for seasoned FPS players looking to put their skills to the test.
