Cannot buy gold edition when already owning starter edition on Steam

    Hi,

I bought the starter edition last weekend and I like the game so I want to buy the gold edition. I know there is no way to 'upgrade' with a discount or anything, so I will have to pay the full discounted price of 25 eu, which is fine.

The problem now is that I cannot buy the gold edition on Steam, since it says I already own the starter edition. I know I can permanently delete games from Steam, but it will not be deleted from my Uplay account I imagine. My question now is: when I delete For Honor Starter from my Steam library permanently and then buy the For Honor Gold Edition via Steam, will everything go smoothly in Steam/Uplay and will I keep my in-game progress?

    Thanks in advance,

    Misha

Hi there. This FAQ gives more details about the Starter Edition. The Starter Edition is a standalone version of the game. This means it cannot be upgraded or converted into another edition. However, by unlocking all default Heroes, either consecutively or using the All Heroes Bundle, you'll have the same content at your disposal as an owner of the Standard Edition, but it will still say For Honor Starter Edition when you play it.

I know what the starter edition is and I know I cannot upgrade, but I'm trying to say that I want to buy the gold edition which is discounted at this moment, but I still have the starter edition as of now. I'm also asking if there is a way to delete my starter edition version and re-buy the game as a gold edition, since I cannot buy the game on steam since it says I already have For Honor (as a starter edition obviously). Due to this, Steam is not letting me buy the gold edition. Additionally, will that re-buy retain my progress or will it be reset?

I'm not sure if you are a bot, but it seems you haven't really read my post carefully..

Steam recognizes the Starter Edition and Gold Edition as the same game, and will not let you purchase the same game a second time. As previously stated, it cannot be upgraded or converted to the gold edition. There isn't an official way to delete a game from your Steam account, but the game is still linked on your Uplay. You could try submitting a ticket to see if they may revoke the copy from your account for you. We cannot guarantee that your progress will transfer to the new copy of the game.

There is an official way to delete a game from a Steam account! I have deleted my starter edition from my Steam account and then I was able to buy the gold edition. On startup the game asked if I wanted to link the new gold edition to my Ubisoft account and I obviously accepted. All the previous progress I made on my starter edition account is still retained fortunately and everything worked out fine.

    For future reference..
Steps to delete a steam game:
    1. Select the game in your Steam library.
    2. Click on the 'Support' link on the right.
    3. Click on the option 'I want to permanently remove this game from my account'.
    4. Follow the steps.

Obviously the game is permanently deleted and I'm not sure if it can be restored, so do this with care.

(Also, I think this entire thing works with Rainbow Six Siege as well, if you want to replace your starter edition with another version.)

Can you please create a case on the support website so we can look into this for you?
