I've been complaining about this ever since U1.6.
With a whole heap of new/expected players entering the game for U1.8 and playing the old and new legendary missions, I would have thought this bug would have been near the top of the priority list.
But with TD2 probably coming out soon, maybe the incentive to fix the bug doesn't exist.

Invisible nades happen in PVP, first appearing in Last Stand (1.6)
Curveball in Stolen Signal (1.6) throws nades before his throw animation even starts, or at least the "throw" part of the animation.
And of course, the LMB-3 Grenadier grenade launcher.
Overall, it's not intentional. This game has just made you guys too mad to think straight lol
