They are not bad at all, some are very inventive – the featured maps are not the problem here, it's the game design forcing us to play them. This MP system is definitely 'not for the players'. However, I would wait and see what UBI has to say at E3 next month, hopefully it will be starting with "We listened..."Originally Posted by NightbayneX Go to original post
Raven abbey is a great map, stunning visuals, consistant realistic theme, great visuals in the background, great use of lighting (day, clouds, filters). gameplay is open like a battlefield tdm map. it deserves to be on that list for sure. this one really stands above the rest imo. i just wish it had more loadouts. the rest of the maps range from poor to average, but thats just my opinion, we all have different tastes.
I also like the visuals in Raven Abbey. Just my opinion but if it was a bit bigger might play better just by taking the map limits further out, maybe as far as the barn and just add more of those stone walls as cover along the fields or around the barn etc.or add haybails.. plenty of scope to make it a bit bigger.
I thought dust_2 was on Featured, dunno if it got removed, but that would probably be one of the best maps on Featured and should stay on Featured, just my opinion of course. I think Kyle made that map. Obviously the dust 2 layout works really well because its always worked really well and always will. Its just excellent map design.
Can't defend most of them. Raven Abbey is good. Airport needs better spawns. Most of the featured look great. Clearly a lot of work went into them. But they play terrible. Poor load outs or bad spawns, too big.... etc. Problem is the lobby system as someone else has mentioned. We are being forced to play them over and over with no guarantee when we get to play our own. I have played enough shovel dodgers for the next ten lifetimes.
I think ive worked out why the bar is set so low for the featured maps. the featured list was never about top tier maps, it's more about average, middle of the road kind of maps, this way all mappers of all skill levels can feel like the featured list is in reach, anyone of any skill level can get a map featured. i can understand the thought proccess behind the featured list now. it's wrong to look at it as top tier maps, it's just maps, regardless of quality, it makes sense now.
I don't think any of the featured maps are terrible - some of them are fun to play on, and many of them are pretty inventive or innovative. Some of them do have issues with spawn placement (and spawn camping), weapon loadouts, etc.
The issue is that they're overplayed. Even with the extended map selection time, you're still seeing many of the same maps over and over and over. It's because of the way Ubisoft positions them in the map selection interface, putting them front and center. Most people picking maps are going to go with what they're familiar with.
Some of featured maps ARE terrible.. look at the new one called Above the cloud.. looks good on paper and thumbnails but literally unplayable.. its basically one lane and you can spawn kill too easily. I think they got featured cause they are ''original'' looking but UBI never played it for sure. At least if they can remove some older featured maps or make selection of maps less towards featured, it would be a start.
Im talking about MP maps, solo featured are mostly really good!
