Hey everyone! I main as a warden and cant help but feel hes been left behind as content gets added and updates never come. So I have a few suggestions for warden that I dont think drag him away from the simplistic in nature vanguard but would still add a layer of variety to their dueling ability which makes the fights more fun and interesting for all.
(My suggestions are mainly derived from HEMA)
Firstly I would like to see some sort of parry counter similar to the lawbringer. In HEMA longsword many techniques are thrown from a parry... Id be happy with a pommel strike that stuns(a stun in general would be nice)
Secondly, an unblockable, something to threaten and make opponents rethink defensive situations. I think a thrust would fit this role perfect... Either quick with low damage as an annoying poke or a little slower with higher damage...(or maybe a combo thereafter) something to mix it up
Thirdly, a throw, grappling with Longswords is a thing and isnt represented at all, what Id like is from guardbreak, second tap of GB does the same kick BUT if held down you grab and trip opponent to the ground similar to a judo osoto gari
Those are what I would like to see without just turning Warden into a OP character. Sure an attack from sidestep or forward step to thrust(actually sounds good) or some infinately combo-able nonsense or neat way to attack grounded enemies would be fun to but I was trying to think balance in my suggestions.
Good luck in the Arena!
I'd like to see the shoulder-bash being tied to Crushing Counter. Something like Crushing Counter can be comboed into a shoulder-bash or into a Top heavy, which now becomes Unblockable after the Crushing Counter. Side-Lights could Crushing Counter as well, but instead of damage causing stunning taps or stamina drain.
Crushing Counter into Top heavy = Unblockable. Gives you a mix-up without being a 50/50 spam with the bash, and also gives them an opening if they actually parry it.
Crushing Counter into Side heavy = Stuns and throws them to the directed side, possibly attacks very quickly with little damage. Gives control of terrain, sets them up for further attacks.
A lot of the problem with Warden is that he becomes incredibly stale if you take the shoulder-bash off him, but it's intolerably stupid leaving him with it as is. Hyper-armour on heavies after a light would be nice. Something to let you keep pressure or force trades.
Right now, without vortexing, Wardens are totally reliant on feints and parries. Kensei is a good example of comboing moves to get tactical benefit. You can deliberately wiff the first light since the second comes out really fast, and use that to poke and pressure them. Wiff two and go into an Unblockable for a mix-up. Both have counters, since your opponent can recognize it, step in to catch and parry either move, or try to pressure you out of doing either.
As stated. He is balanced, jack of all, master of none. Strong light and heavy parry follow ups. Average gb damage with decent wall splat increase. Strong out of stam game. Strong Turtle breaker. Strong mix up with shoulder.
The only things could be a soft feint off of 2nd heavy or as stated in earlier post unblockable heavy follow up of crushing.
Less recovery on zone like similar zones (oroshi and warlord).
Warden main since beta.
Lmao, the warden is a jack of nothing. He literally has 3 moves with all being easily countered or avoided. He has zero viability. His perks are garbage compared to almost every other class, all he has is shoulder charge meanwhile every other character in the game has multiple different types of unblockables that can change directions or knock to the ground. Maybe if they made the shoulder bash an automatic knock down but the only thing the warden ever had going was charge locking people and that was nerfed and everyone now says evades it like nothing. They need to give the warden more moves 1 or 2 or make shoulder bash actually provide an opportunity for more than a quick 2 hit slash that does less damage than 1 hit from most other classes.Originally Posted by Aluvian_Tears Go to original post
Also, they slowed his light down so much that his second attack even after parrying is easily blocked.
