Isnt there a snap to object size in consoles? I found that this is all I need to make what I want. Here is how I work with tiled areas:

    1) Turn off grid and place the first shape
    2) Turn on grid and set to snap with object size
    3) Move all objects until you get what you need.
    4) If you want to overlap some shapes, turn off grid and play with the coords to avoid texture overlapping.
    5) From my tests, it seems that changing the third decimal digit will sometimes round up the position and when you reload the level, textures will overlap again, so make sure to change from the second digit at least.

I'd have to opt for a snap to grid button. Entering coordinates for each thing I want to move or adjust is extremely cumbersome and not entirely reliable if you've got an object that does not conform to the grid.

Snap to object corner would be very handy.

as you can see its not that i dont know how to line things up you dont fin many seams or overlaps in my maps!
