I didn't say it wasn't dumbing down. That's a different subject. I'm saying all these things can be disabled. I don't understand why it matters to you that a game is dumbing down. You have the option to play the non-dumbed down version by turning off the HUD.Originally Posted by FrankDaTank1218 Go to original post
If all this stuff was forced on you, as it was/is with all the previous FC games, I'd be agreeing with everything you're saying, but they're not forced on you.
Well, good thing they've got you here to tell them they're playing it wrong.Originally Posted by FrankDaTank1218 Go to original post
Sorry, but I'll wager most gamers that want to turn off HUD elements know where to look in the options to turn them off and those who don't simply don't. I'll agree with your point about the enemy AI.
.....and my dislike for excessive profanity in reviews has nothing to do with me being a prude. I just don't find it meaningful as it's not the tact I prefer.
Stil don't understand why they should leave in a 'feature' that is essentially a cheat that ruins the game, making the AI less fun and making people think your average quality AI is braindead. They can even keep tagging, just limit it to the compass. What the default experience is matters, most people will not change the default settings, and most importasntly *reviews tend to be based on default setting*.
Call them stupid or whatever you like, but you will have bad press for your game due to statements like 'game is too easy' and 'AI is dumb' because of the default experience.
Not everyone who doesn't bother customizing is stupid.
Well I have to ask, what are they?Originally Posted by FrankDaTank1218 Go to original post
First off, AI really doesn't have anything to do with HUD. Yes, see-through walls make them easy pickings, put the quality of computer AI is all down to the programming. Turning off the game's HUD will not magically make the AI brilliant. Poor AI will always be poor AI, HUD or not.
But as it's the HUD you seem to have a problem with, let me ask you a question.
When someone begins playing this, and reaches the conclusion that the HUD and UI are making things too easy, what kind of player other than the stupid (or perhaps first-time gamers) wouldn't open up the menu to investigate what their options are regarding the UI?
Yes, the HUD and other gimmicks are dumbing down, but if people choose to play like that you can hardly blame the developers. And more so, what about the gamers who need these aids? Not every gamer is skilled at these things. Are you saying these people shouldn't be catered for?
