Ubisoft rewarding speed builders with features?

Shovel dodgers, cinema... all the new featured maps are bland, most of the old ones are too. Horrible loadouts, poorly thought out spawns. I’ve seen and played so many other well done maps as well as made a couple myself. There is no lack of truly awesome maps, but this is what’s featured? Don’t they have people for this searching for featured maps stuff or is it robots?

I cannot talk about Mp featured maps 'cause it's not my cup of tea for the moment but solo maps are pretty good imo.

Of course, there are even more awesome other maps that might be never featured because some have already dive deep into the abyssal ocean data.

Any way Ubi has to choose from one them and there are already too much to potentially test/review and port them on all platforms.

So, to sum it up, you'll need to make an awesome map which might be noticed to fit the taste of one of the Ubi menber among loads of other maps.

    Good luck.

After doing the campaign all I really want to do is make TDM maps and play multiplayer online.

I'm really not bothered at all about the custom story maps. Its not like you will play the same Bounty Hunt map 50 times.

And yea, some of the featured MP maps don't really seem like proper competitive maps more like they have been picked due to their comedic value. Oh what a laugh. If you play Shovel Dodgers, you will probably think its fun for 30 seconds and then when it gets voted to replay it you will either vomit or quit. Its not a competitive MP map. Yea technically speaking it is, but trust me, its not. Its game for a laugh, which coincidentally is very apt for Ubi's FC5 MP which cares less and less for competitive MP experience that goes the distance and more for shoddy, cheap, 5 minute one hit wonders that are easily forgotten and never replayed.

I have 2 proper competitive TDM maps ready to upload but the victim of Ubisoft's Redhorn errors so unable to upload maps at the minute, and I suspect all the proper TDM players are already long gone due to the whimsical lobby system which doesn't support playlists or ranked matches.

Had there been a proper lobby system like Far Cry 2's superb lobby system, I would be releasing a map pack of 12 maps by now.

Well I actually liked these Multiplayer maps.

On A Rock Beyond The Sun
    Arctic
    Coastal
    Limbo Disco (PC)

I have not played Lawless, Movie Theatre, Hide and Seek, Raven Abbey, Above The Clouds so can't comment on them.
From all the Featured maps I have played Limbo Disco and On A Rock Beyond The Sun I have enjoyed the most.

Of the Solo maps there are some really good ones.
    Alpha Caldera
    Desolation
    Safe Haven
    Galactica Star
    County Jail Breakout
    Betrayed

Escape From Madness (PC) I have not played this yet.

Yea, On A Rock, Arctic and Coastal are pretty good. Not played Limbo Disco.

But although those 3 are ok, I can get by playing them 3 times in a row but after that its tedious. I've yet to play the Dust 2 map which I could probably play all day but people vote for Shoel Throwing maps and other crap.

We need proper lobbies man. This making it fair for everyone is absolute BS.

The one featured mp map that stands out to me, has to be Raven Abbey, it's top tier imo. on a scale of 1 to 10 it's an 8.5 - 9. the other featured mp maps range from about 2 to 6. the bar needs to be raised on the quality of featured mp maps, they need to follow the quality of Raven Abbey. it's polished, convincing theme, moody, yes it's more of an open map, more like battlefield, that's a good thing. my biggest complaint about the featured maps is weapon placements (i hate it) and very poor loadouts. if you want to see how to make proper rounded loadouts, checkout my DUST map loadouts.

There are certainly some good maps, some, some are just not thought out well not decorated and bland and several should not be featured period. Toys room is TRASH how are you even gonna let a map in the has 1 TRASH loadout!? Farm cry might be alright if the spawns weren’t a complete joke. Don’t even get me started on shovel dodgers. Why are you going to build an editor with 9000 objects and sell it that way then reward some ******** like shovel dodgers? It’s ridiculous, it’s insulting, it’s infuriating serious builders and alienating your core audience. You really think the guy who made shovel dodgers is gonna be Mapping 6mo from now? What a joke.

TBH the only featured maps ive played, and enjoyed in TDM are Abandoned & Arctic.

The maps i dislike are Airport, Rock behind the sun, Lawless. Shovel dodgers gets a likely mention, as its not what id call a serious map...

Farmcry plays well sometimes, other times its awful lol.
Town Riot and Ancient market are OK.
Beach brawl is strange map in play, sometimes im constantly getting shot in the back...sometimes i dont see anyone for longish times. Maybe this is my play-style lol

Sadly ive not played the others yet. Some look good.

But overall, im much more disappointed with the mechanics of the gameplay, than the maps themselves. Im pretty sure if they dumped me in with the mechanics from FC2 or one of the battlefields...id enjoy most these maps much better. Which is why im hesitant about down voting maps.

The whole thing is subjective, there are always going to be people who hate Featured maps, and wonder why other maps aren't being featured.

As far as Shovel Dodgers, I'll have to defend it a bit. It sorta introduces a new game mode, similar to dodgeball. It's a very simple, yet fun map to play, and is immensely popular. Kinda reminds me of how "Griffball" was created as a semi-game mode for Halo. Since Ubisoft severely limited us with our game modes, it's nice to see someone being at least a slight bit creative, taking advantage of the throw/melee mechanics

I have to agree. Simple concepts can still be fun, and still "work". However I can personally understand the frustration with that map when I've personally sat through many instances where a lobby voted to play Shovel Dodgers 3x or more in a row, even when there were other high rated, non-featured (thus, not over played) maps to choose from most times.

If I were to change one thing about this game, it'd be the map selection menu when you're a map picker in MP. It should feature both "Featured" and "New" maps on-screen at once. Maybe even "Favorites" also.
The menu is too slow and laggy to navigate efficiently, which is an issue with such a short selection time. Also unless you have a map creator in that particular lobby, 99% of the time people just choose featured maps only. The beauty of the editor should mean that the map pool is huge. However so far it feels like the same 5 maps over and over and is more repetitive that most FPS titles.

That being said, I think the concept that a few mappers have of this game being "for serious, ultra realistic maps only" is a bit much. The wide variety of possibilities with the editor is sort of the point. Shovel Dodgers was fun for me, the first 5 times maybe. Now it's just repetitive and uninteresting. It shouldn't have been featured for so long, it should have just been a bit of a meme and left up for maybe a week as featured in my opinion.

At least a map like Shovel Dodgers works completely as intended, also. Where as other simple maps like Cinema lack proper game flow. Getting spawn trapped is a huge issue (I've had it happen to me and I've done it to others far too easily also) and there's a severe lack of flow and cover.
