I purchased a new monitor, ASUS 1440p resolution (set on 120 Mhz) and was expecting a significant FPS drop in my new favorite game Far Cry 5 over my old 1080p 120mhz monitor. I have a Gforce 770 GTX card from several years ago, and an i7 intel from an even further time in the past.
Much to my surprise and delight, although I nudged the settings a little lower in certain areas the game is running silky smooth. It is running smooth even in dense graphic areas. I don't know what the exact fps is, but I am delighted with the fluid gameplay and movement.
So naturally this got me excited so I loaded up FC 3 which I also play, I also loaded several other FPS games and... drum roll... big time noticeable fps hit on all the rest.
It looks to me as if the programmers of FC5 are really working some kind of algorithm which dials back draw distance to maintain smoothness. So, my hats off to them.
If you are still using a 1080p monitor, obviously a 1440p is sharper. But where it really shines is when baddies are at further distances, they look much more real.
So I am really digging playing now.
Oh did I mention it's better for doing spreadsheets as well?![]()
