FC5 is a regression in so many ways

After finishing FC5 I’ve decided to replay FC4 which I haven’t touched for a few years. On the PS4, FC5 has much better graphics, and a few funny characters, but that’s about where the improvements end. FC4 has a better, more realistic situation, better story missions that don’t yank you out of the world, better more appropriate side missions, better take downs, less madness on the roads, less and therefore more impressive wild life encounters, no airplanes, and a more unique (at least to me) setting to explore.

The guns (other than paint jobs) seem little evolved if at all, which is really core to this franchise and a major disappointment with FC5, especially since it takes place in the gun capital of the world. Very bizarre. The Bushman in FC4 is such a pleasure to use, much like the experience using the Shredder in FC3. There’s really no equally new and satisfying weapon in FC5.

I think the choice of setting FC5 in the USA vs some far off remote location really handicapped story development and realism. But there’s really no excuse for the lack of interesting guns and customization options. The spawn rates for enemies and animals is just insane - ruining what could be a beautiful place to explore - even if it looks very familiar to those of us in NA.

I’d like to give FC4 another go, but the ridiculous level of interactive prompts that were constantly thrown in your face - with no means of disabling them - meant I could only stand for about 3 hours gameplay before taking it back to the store to exchange it for something else. That and no ability to holster your weapon.

That is one improvement in FC5... the doors don’t require interaction to open, which reduces the prompts, but other than that, I’m not sure I’ve noticed as prompts to search, skin, grapple, and interact are helpful given they are the only way to know when you’re suitably positioned to do any of those things. But FC4 is better in terms of being able to turn off the flashing items and bodies which I find very distracting.

But even when doors do need interaction, why do I need a prompt to tell me what to press? I play FC5 with all HUD and prompts disabled, and not once have I been unable to use the grappling hook. All you need to do is look at it and you know you’re in position. FC4’s prompts were ridiculous (at least in PS4); ‘Press this to open door’, ‘Press that to loot body’. The worst one was vehicles, where ‘Hold O to exit’ would pop up everytime you stopped the vehicle. Then there was the hand glider controls ruining your view the whole time. Ridiculous and completely unnecessary, with no option to turn them off.

Yeah, there’s absolutely no reason why every visual and audible aid/prompt shouldn’t be optional. In FC5 I turned off enemy tagging but would still hear the sound effect for that.

Yup, the ever-present info/warning "beeps" have been a problem ever since FC3 - regardless of the other in-game options selected.

For FC5 there's no excuse I can think of why those sounds can't be turned off - unless it's, again, something deeply embedded within the game engine.

Well FWIW, something good about Far Cry 5 - you the player can climb steeper inclines then Jason ever could (in vanilla). Also fall damage doesn't appear to be as severe as previously coded.

One other thing... the gun sounds on FC4 are so much more realistic. FC5 guns are all silenced LOL.

I know they are releasing FC3 again for PS4. I wish for a remaster of FC3 and 4 using the latest game engine visuals. I know I’m probably in the minority, but I didn’t like the game play in FC2 as much but that setting was perfect for a game like this. They should do a refresh of that game as well with the latest engine.

I agree with some points, way prefer fc5 setting though. I also am hating this stupid *** rp bar, I also agree about lack of weapons, vehicles too, no far cry has decent story though, fc4s was equally s,hit.

Exploration is way better in 5 because of how much more detail there is now.

Thing is I've forgotten 4, I'd have to play it to give a proper fair comparison.

I thought FC5 was great also until I restarted FC4. Although I agree on some of the detail... I think some of the outposts in FC5 are nicely done and more complex than what you find in FC4. What I liked about FC4 and previous iterations is the culturally significant points of interest - like temples, statues, villages ruins, and fortifications. Here we have a tiny town, a bunch of hick cabins, a gas station or two, a couple of lodges, a cheeseburger joint, and a few boss bunkers that you can't even really explore. This is not great for exploration in my opinion.

The story is never the strong point of any FC game, but I think they do a good job with the premise for why your character is there and in FC3 and FC4 you felt some motivation and then they do a good job of making you feel as much the villain's henchman as the last guy in charge. In FC5, I'd prefer to just get to a phone and call the national guard. There's nothing really interesting about the story and it's progression and certainly it's ending. I have no personal stake in this, no family, friends, or anyone. The character in this story just has nothing to care about except perhaps rescuing his dumb *** co-workers.
