The Admiral - What a load of horse ****

so what the actual **** is wrong with you for ****ing this up so bad? this **** is completely impossible. with only 2-3 secs of reeling (after that line is red) and 4-5 secs of cooldown (before it's green again) HOW THE ACTUAL **** ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO CATCH THIS ****ING FISH?

you do realize that in order for it to get CLOSER TO YOU the time you reel needs to be LONGER than the time you LET GO. how are you supposed to catch the fish when the only thing that happens when it bites is it getting away further and further and further until max distance is reached and basically nothing happens no more.

the only ****ing way to catch it is either having the 4th rod which makes this whole ordeal pointless or BEING ****ING LUCKY and having the fish SWIM DIRECTLY TOWARDS YOU (actually saw that in a video. dude hooked it, reeled for 5 sec and the fish swam directly into his arms) or HAVE IT JUMP EVERY 4 SEC so you get cooldown while fish isn't moving. this whole ****ing quest is either a disgusting rng fest or completely pointless (if you already have the last rod) so can whoever is responsible for this **** just get kneed in the face for ****ing up that bad please?

I've caught him twice. Once with the second rod, once with the first rod. It takes a loooong time with the first rod. I attempted to catch him with the first rod and no perk, but took like 10-15 minutes of fighting to get him half way to my boat, then then a peggie patrol came by. Once I took the fishing perk it significantly reduces the time it takes to tire him out, and was able to catch him.

I've been convinced that the line has to snap a few times to add tension to the encounter but I've managed to tire and catch the Admiral after ~4th attempt. Of course both King Fisher as well as an upgraded rod were used.

You do realize this is a scripted part of the game? You just have to keep going till the game lets you reel him in. Once he snaps the line you can catch him again, stupid yes, but not impossible, and certainly not worth losing your mind over.

Yeah and she even says keep trying because he's getting tired. It's suppose to take a few tries but I did have the park and second rod. It was to easy actually

The trick is to not reel in that much, especially at the start, and then only reel I when he's coming at you. Also, don't just mash on the reel button and hold it. Use it in 'bursts'.

When he's going sideways, pull against the way he's going tin order to wear him out.

Keep an eye on the line. When the green first starts to turn yellow, sop reeling ad/r relax pressure. That will keep it from going to red.

Perk, 2nd rod and about an hour of my life including retries for me...
Like RAF_OldBuzzard says above spend most of the time opposing the direction of travel rather than reeling him.

Another tip... Keep the rod low to the water. Don’t yank it up like you’re trying to pull the fish out of the water.

Apparently this is MUCH easier with a controller.

If you're using a keyboard and mouse, turn mouse sensitivity all the way up.

I had the second rod and battled that fish for about 40 minutes. I broke the line a few times, but the last time I just gave up after about 20 minutes of battling. I did the hard fishing (catching most of those fish in under a minute), came back with Old Betsy ... struggled for about 10-15 minutes before the line broke.

Took advice I found online: turned mouse sensitivity up to full (1600), and I had that fish EASILY in less than 30 seconds.

Believe me: if it were simply that I sucked at fishing, I wouldn't have beaten all the hard-fishing records, and wouldn't have beaten most of them in less than a minute. In fact, I spent less time getting Old Betsy than I did in my first battle with The Admiral. The fact I caught him in less than 30 seconds after adjusting the mouse tells me that the way it's coded is a little unforgiving.
