I hesitate to start another thread that will allow for yet more knife throwing, but I find the poor draw distance and slow rendering in this game a bit puzzling. These still have to be managed, of course, but aren’t they the kind of thing that plagued older games and hardware?
When I’m driving I spend more time watching trees, rocks and vehicles slowly materialising 50 feet ahead than I do anything else.
I’m on PS4 - can’t speak for Pro consoles and PC.
It would appear to be a general issue with the game though I'm not personally suffering from it.
I've witnessed a it a few times, the game loaded assets like terrain again starting from the lowest quality when travelling between zones but it always resulted in the highest quality asset being loaded eventually shortly after instead of sticking to low quality variant.
You just said a whole bunch of stuff I don't understand there, but what I would like to know is what platform you're on?Originally Posted by BOT_Coyote Go to original post
[edit] Having now read the thread you linked to, I can say this isn't what I'm talking about. I don't know the technical terms, but I think those in the know call it 'pop-in' ? I'm driving along and trees, rocks and other foliage in the mid-distance can be seen rendering into position.
Streaming is an act of loading in additional information when it is demanded instead of pre-loading it all at once, it goes in pair with LOD (Level if detail) to increase performance as objects that aren't required for the scene aren't loaded while further ones are drawn at lower detail as the loss of quality is almost impossible to perceive.
Pop-in is a result of an object getting loaded too late or changing LOD when visible by player, under perfect circumstances none of these draw much attention during play. When you see objects of low quality when they are close, it's usually a streaming issue as a high quality asset cannot be loaded in time.
But I never said anything about low quality objects.Originally Posted by BOT_Coyote Go to original post
So it's pop-in, then? Is this known, or just an unfortunate result of a non-pro console?
That said, GTA V doesn't suffer from the same kind of pop-in, so it's a limitation of the engine, yes?
Just looking for answers here, and if I'm the only one suffering from it.
Knife throwing = anti-immersion. Imagine yourself in such a tough situation as we are in Far Cry5 but in reality.......I hardly doubt you would throwing knives at enemies. What a cool specialist you must be to neutralize an armed enemy by throwing a knife! Operation is very risky. I don't do it in my walkthrough.... as I don't use baits. Shovel hit on the head from behind looks more realistic.
It "can" happen on PC too. I've always referred to it as "texture popping"; whether that's actually the/a correct term for it.
A lot depends on how capable your rig is, and how efficiently the game has been coded to take advantage of the widest possible hardware combination. I've experienced a few instances of it with FC5, but very minimal really.
I've had several odd graphic issues including a couple of instances where things like the weapons vendor area would not render (just the icon would show up). Typically happened when I had just liberated a site. Unfortunately, it prevented me from interaction with the weapon vendor so I had to go elsewhere to buy more ammo, echanges guns, etc.
