It's still a shame about the steel gain though. I fear that having Tournaments on the weekends won't help enough. I mean, like why should you object yourself to that wait time? It just seems like tournament will be an disrupting annoyance for the 1vs1 ranked ladder.
- Give tournament players more steel.
- Give tournament players more rank up for wins.
- Give tournament players ORDERS.
I don't buy it "we don't want to force anyone into a game mode". Then don't play it. I think the sooner players can get into 1vs1 fights and off 4vs4 (gank) Dominion the better. People complain about ganks so much, well hey, in 1vs1 mode...THERE IS NONE!
It was said during the last Warrior's Den that the Ranked Duels and Duel Tournaments are open to feedback. We'll see what's improved and what will need fixing. It's still a shame about the steel gain though. I fear that having Tournaments on the weekends won't help enough. A really big help would be to allow players in lobby to watch games in progress. I don't know how hard it would be to implement, maybe the players who are watching do not need to enter the match, but rather watch it from lobby as a stream.
Not only is it a great way to kill time, but you can actually see how your enemies fight before you get to fight them and think about your strategy/approach. It will also mean you get to see their chosen hero (and they get to see yours!), but since you are able to switch heroes every match this should not be an issue, and will introduce more mindgames when picking a character.
It's been a while and we still haven't got a decent ranked 1vs1...

If they want to make game more competitive, ranked play needs to be overhauled and taken out of beta.Originally Posted by Tyrjo Go to original post
It's not like it's a big project to fix it. The MMR needs to be updated, specifically the way you rank up. We've seen plenty of people talk about how they get almost nothing when they win and lose a lot of rank when they lose. I played the same guy twice in a row, the first game I won and got +4%, the second game 5 minutes later I lost and got -14%. It was all within a tier, so there was no derank penalty.
The game also needs to be better at finding out that you're in a tier which you are too good for. Many games automatically rank you up if you win 5 games in a row.
The game also needs a steel incentive for getting a rank over a season. F.e. 1000 steel after a season has ended for Bronze, 2000 for silver, 3000 gold and so on.
