What A Lousy, Lousy Game FC5 Turned Out To Be

Having seen the promo videos for Far Cry 5, I was expecting a wonderful new FC5 installment, fully of interesting new things to do. Bought it immediately when it came out.

What a big mistake that turned out to be...

This game is lacking in every way, and I give it a 3 out of 10 stars rating.

    - Story - extraordinarily dumb. Cultists - you could have made them non-Christians you know? not everybody is a European Atheist - shut down an entire valley in the U.S., and somehow nobody notices and you are the only guy who can defeat them. That makes a lot of sense, Ubisoft... Of course nobody would notice something like this happening at all.
    - Gameplay - totally repetitive run, sneak, drive & shoot gameplay. The same thing over and over and over again.
    - Physics - almost non-existent bar some ragdolls and some stuff you can drive through - you can't even make a tree fall over in this game, dig a hole in the ground or roll a large object over and down a hill. Very impressive for a full price AAA game in 2018! Well done.
    - Interaction - where is it??? Why can't you interact with more objects in the environment, have a proper inventory/backpack, pick up and examine whatever you want, throw whatever you want and so on? FC5 feels like a demo of an open world game engine with the game itself not built yet.
    - Character interaction - games 25 years ago had multiple-choice dialogue for talking with other characters. Your dialogue choices had consequences back then. In FC5, you press "E", and the characters tell you to search for Bobby McBoobiemac's prepper stash somewhere. How fun and non-linear, Ubisoft!
    - User interface - I hate the Q-menu design, the non-working cycling through the scroll wheel items, and the way you have assigned keyboard and mouse controls in this game in general. Fail.
    - Open World - nice and big, sometimes pretty... except that you can barely interact with anything meaningfully, and that the world is rather boring and repetitive.

My verdict - you must have done this one with no more than 25 people working, in about 18 months, and rushed it to market 2 years before it was actually done.

This just does not feel like a well-crafted, satisfying Far Cry game. Sorry.

And no, I probably won't be buying Far Cry 6, because you are probably going to give us the same simple game mechanics with different baddies again.

100% agree with you my friend.
It's a buggy unfinished mess, pure and simple.
Foolishly believed this was going to be something special...
Instead it's another mediocre game pushing micro transactions, targeting 12 year olds with ADD, whose parents have forgotten that their Credit Card details are on the console. 😐

Personally, after playing all far cry from 2 onwards, i got what I expected, what i wanted, and i enjoyed it. A bit of tweaking to the end game world in terms of enemy numbers would be nice, but the game was fun.
For perspective, i am not 12, dont have add, and use my own credit card. And didnt see a push to purchase micro transactions.
Cant deny a bit more "time in the oven" would have helped though.

If you don't want to buy future Far Cry 6 - don't buy! No one will loose because of that only you! But I'm sure Far Cry 6 will buy more people than Far Cry 5! And if you had some false expectations about the game it's your problem! Far Cry is Far Cry. It is not The Witcher 3 and it is not GTA5. Far Cry took its firm place in the game industry and it follows its own laws. Far Cry doesn't chase fasion! Fashion chase Far Cry! Many other games were trying to imitate Far Cry! You can only take the game as it is or forget about it. If you don't like Far Cry5 - it is not "your" game, find yourself another. But Millions around the world say "YES" to Far Cry 5!

The OP is correct...they totally screwed this one up. More like let’s cash in on the FC franchise. I will never again do a pre order from Ubisoft.

The only thing lousy about this game is the ending and force captured (and unrealistic captured of allies)
