Yes Far Cry 5 looks nice and pretty, but not spectacularly so for 2018. I don't think they've raised the bar graphically as I was hoping they would and as Ubisoft often do. It's been a year since Ghost Recon Wildlands was released and that game is still so often stunningly breathtaking and the most photorealistic game yet with amazing lighting but honestly it doesn't even feel like they've attempted to top that game with FC5, whereas in that year they should have taken things forward. To be honest, I can't see a great deal of difference between FC5 and FC4 and that's sad as it shows that the advance of graphics has stalled somewhat. Again, not saying FC5 looks bad, not at all, but it is decidedly this-gen as opposed to next -gen. I'm still hoping for the days of photorealistic open world games with accurate physics and destructability...a long way to go it seems.
Long way to go? Bit harsh me thinks. Such a first world problem to have as well... I agree, it may not have moved on massively from FC4 or Wildlands, but there are elements of the game that had people thinking it was a movie. The water and especially the shore lines are often incredible, and there are some stunning vistas. It's also a case that just like with resolution, it's a case of diminishing returns. Me? I play the game for what it offers gameplay-wise, not what it looks like (clearly in relative terms her, as most games look good enough these days).
I think there is a long way to go in that games are still far from photorealistic, in that it's still easy to tell straight away that it's not real life scenery we are looking at. There are times in FC5 and GRW that you certainly can mistake for real life but that's only in certain situations. As you say water is very good in FC5. My post was purely about graphics not gameplay, and I think FC5 overall is a good fun game. But, for me at least, better immersion, and therefore potential enjoyment, comes with better realism (graphics, lighting, destructability, physics etc) which games are generally stiving towards, so I am always hoping AAA games move things forward significantly in those departments, and I feel FC5 doesn't a great deal.
The game was clearly nowhere near ready for release.
The story structure, The resistance meter, The AI, The bugs,
Missing weapons, takedowns, repeating enemies and missions.
As it stands right now the entire world feels pointless.
Complete a challenge and get perk points. For what though? The world is barren once you finished the forced story missions.
Arcade = Live Subscriptions to buy asthetic garbage to use in the barren world.
Patches can fix some issues, but think of this... a year down the line when hopefully some of these issues are addressed...
Try going back and playing the released unpatched version...
The unfnished state that it was released in will make it look even worse.... that we payed money for.
I can't understand you! What do you want? Super next - gene breakthrough? In this case we will wait next Far Cry for decades! Developers do what they can! And don't forget they are limited by Dunia Engine. It has its pluses but it has minuses also. Engine is not perfect and upgrades, step by step! Far Cry graphics is not the top of computer graphics of 2018! Nature is still looking rather artificial. For example, let's take ferns! Look at ferns closely and thoroughly in the game.....rather good....but not such good as modern computer graphics let us today!
