NO
Its not time to publish.
When you have finished you map, completely, entirely, nothing else needs adding, you have polished it all - it looks fantastic.
That's the time to set a publishing date one week in advance.
I guarantee you that you will find faults, make changes and improvements.
Please guys - get quality out there - when you think you map is done - give it another week. You will automatically just go back into it, checking and looking for ways to improve it. When you map is done - set a publishing date in a week's time. You won't regret it.
I get what you're trying to say, but you're exaggerating big time. The map editor is first and foremost there for people to have fun, goof off and experiment a little bit and not the other way around. You can't in all seriousness suggest that everyone should be spending weeks on building one single map and try their hardest to become a professional, developer-like map maker.
I appreciate quality maps in any game with a custom map editor, but I also understand the limitations regarding the actual community output.
Also, when it comes to gameplay/map-flow, you can't really test MP maps without having several other players to play them with. And in order to have that opportunity, you need to upload them first.
I spent about 60 hours on my map used 100% available everything.
I went to publish and forgot I had a horrible screenshot.
I was mortified.
I requested deletion , took a new screen shot changed my map name and republished.
On a side note I see very bland under detailed maps with 10 enemies from UBISOFT getting played a gazillion times and my map with extreme detail tons of VIP enemies , takes a long time to finish my map and it gets lost in the shuffle.
Oh well as long as YOU enjoy your map , you still win. That's the important thing is that you can replay your map over and over and enjoy it.
Fortunately, you can make changes to your map post-publishing, and then re-upload your map without losing ratings, plays, or favorites. This is much improved over previous systems. Also, I intend to remix each map I complete for another play mode which requires a major overhaul, but it allows me to try ideas that didn't make the first cut.
Good idea, I was thinking about cooking up a larger map that could work for Journey mode, then constrain it for other co-op modes. That and I monkeyed about with fitting rooms made from generic shapes into pre-made buildings from AC and Watch_Dogs - I'm not totally sold on the idea, but they mesh well enough.
