WASD driving through the wilderness can be tough, in my personal experience. But yeah, you do have the ability to change your vehicle sensitivity/acceleration settings. I don't usually find that I'm driving off of cliffs that I shouldn't be, so these settings may be worth a look.

Thanks for giving the game a shot, even though it's outside your usual adventure/RPG wheelhouse.

With that said, maybe you're experiencing lag - I had to switch my TV (Samsung UN65KS8000) to "game mode" otherwise I too had too much lag which made driving, and control in general, not very responsive.

I've purchased GRW but now playing on my PC as I need 60+FPS. I'm also using an XBOX controller which makes driving/flying/etc. much easier and more satisfying - I can't stand digital control (on/off) for movement. My $.02
Thanks for the advice but like I said, this odd input delay/lag/numbness with the ground vehicles I'm describing isn't felt in other games I play nor is it even present elsewhere in GRW. As I also mentioned, it is most apparent while driving the APC. This has been my own experience and those of my friends I used to play GRW with.

On a side note, I could never stand "on/off" controls either. When I used to game on PCs I always used joystick or other controllers for driving, flying, etc. It's funny but even after having Thustmasters and other more elaborate joysticks, my trusty MS Sidewinder 3D Pro always remained my "go to". If I was still building PCs I would probably be using a console controller like you.

I must say....as with Watch Dogs...GRW took a while before I could get used to the controls. It still feels a little wonky but I can now handle it. It's less to do with brilliant controls and more with a familiarity bred over 240 hours of gametime.

I'd recommend using Dirt Bikes. Their maneuverability is great for beginners....although they do have a tendency to launch you 300 feet to your death

You know what's funny..... I recall the motor bikes feeling much better in the the closed beta. It was either in the open beta or the final release where there was a notable change in their "feel" (not for the better either).

To the OP, one thing that helped me with the driving was to use the Right Mouse Button to accelerate and the Space Bar for handbrake, then the A and D are the buttons for left and right are simpler to handle.

I will try the driving suggestions you all have posted. Strangely, I found the helicopter slightly less awkward. At least I couldn't fly off a cliff and have never crashed on landing.
Also, thank you RoCKY for the tip on using the map.
It might be the fact that I have never played a game like this before, but it seems like the controls aren't very intuitive and the game itself isn't really good at telling you how to play it.
P.S. I still have no idea why I can be a passenger, when no one else can drive.

O.K. I have tried to stop the convoy 20+ times with massive road blocks mostly and trying to ram the truck with large vehicles unsuccessfully (again, because I can't drive them at all)! It still just plows through the dozens of cars and gets away! I have tried adjusting and remapping the controls, still driving is just a clusterf@#k for me!
    I think I'm done.
    Thanks anyways.

It's not just the game, it's how familiar one is with the game, and with using keyboards to drive with. I struggled with it at first, but now it's MUCH easier for me. I just make sure I let off gas before turns and coast through them, then hit gas when the road becomes straight. On very tight turns I use the handbrake to swing the rear end around a bit. On long gradual bends I tap A or D. Not rapidly mind you, it only requires a tap every half to one second to steer a smooth arc.

Also, drive slower at first when you are getting familiar with controlling vehicles. You should probably do this a bit before taking on tougher convoys. Some vehicles also handle better than others. For instance the Armored SUV is very clumsy, but the Hummer looking vehicles (Landrock http://www.igcd.net/vehicle.php?id=124440), are faster and more nimble. They don't take quite as much damage, but can take quite a lot, and many have turrets. It's a shame they didn't include them as rebel drop vehicles really.

As mentioned the game also does actually have a driving sensitivity setting, as well as a setting for mouse look sensitivity while driving. I have mine set to 50% for driving sensitivity, but 0% for mouse look sensitivity. However that's with my G402 set to 1040 DPI. The twitchiness of the mouse look was the main thing that bothered me with driving settings.

Honestly, what bothers me more is my 7970 is only powerful enough to yield an average FPS of about upper 40s, so when frames dip I often get a hiccup while driving, which can throw off your driving line now and then. This will no doubt all be resolved when I get the 1080 I just ordered.

BTW, the best reason for allowing a solo player to sit in a passenger seat is it's sometimes a way to avoid fire or detection if there's enemies on the driver side of the vehicle when you are planning to enter one. I've used this many times to make quick and painless escapes. Just hop in the passenger side, switch to driver's seat, and you're off, vs getting caught in a fire fight.

As for the abruptness of changing from forward to reverse when stopping, I hated that at first too, but now I just use handbrake after I've slowed down to come to a complete stop. As long as you remember to do that, problem solved. Admittedly sometimes I still forget. LOL

The game is not finished by any means, or perhaps it lacks a few things that may or may not be finished ever but perhaps you won't even noticed them, nor it is user friendly when it comes to KB+M. And yes, if you have accumulated lots and lots of hours you will begin to see where the game starts to be less annoying and perhaps even more fun. By then, you have learn the tricks or work-arounds of the game. The game is fun, habit forming even but it is very annoying as well. Now, since you already own it, might as well make the most out of it and go slow while driving.

Also, go to the settings and learn what each option does for you, perhaps you may want to start the first couple of provinces on easy until you get the feel for it and then change options to make it a bit more realistic for you.

    Enjoy.

P.S.: Blocking the road does not help with the convoys, they are pretty much a wall but what it does help is placing a few bricks or C4 to get rid of the security vehicles, try to hit the driver of the convoy and you may not have to get kill on a firefight. Or, syncshot the drivers with your teammate (by now you may only have 1 of them capable of syncshot). Again, at the beginning is frustrating more than it is fun but if you are like most human beings... you can't walk away from a challenge and you're a tad masochist LOL.

There other ways to take down convoys but this doesn't address the root of your frustration being the vehicles.

Getting used to or proficient with certain mechanics in a game doesn't necessarily make it satisfying or enjoyable. ....there is a difference. I am very proficient after months of play but still find ground vehicles, helos and planes just not that fun in GRW. .....tolerable but not really fun.

By comparison, in games like GTAV or BF, I actually look forward to driving or flying the various vehicles they offer. I also like the challenge that the more advance control characteristics and physics offer with more complicated maneuvers being possible given some practice if I'm up to it.

To me, there is a difference between skills / mechanics in a game that are enjoyable / rewarding to learn and those that are simply frustrating or give me a feeling of indifference. Just because I can learn to do something in a game (even doing it well) doesn't automatically make it fun or satisfying for me.

Having said all that, I do find other elements of the gameplay very enjoyable which helps me look past some of these other shortcoming of this title. ....but that's just me. Everyone has their own set of criteria they go by when judging whether a game is right for them.
