To play or not to play... that is the question.

I want to play, because the game is fun.

When I do play, I feel like the game is finished and I am wasting my time. There is no more progress or nothing truly new coming. If I grind for (or purchase) the new vanity items and they don't carry over (TD2) they are a useless waste. There is no reason to run content because I have all gear, I don't need to optimize more gear because I don't need to run content. I would finish off the grind for the Hunter Mask or other commendations, but what is the point if I have 'finished' the game.

Give me a reason to play.

What is the end of The Division (1) for you?

    Why are you still playing?

I feel you, man. I'm of a similar mindset these days. Although, I do still have a couple things I'd like to get (would like a House for my D3 build, and finally got the right pieces to put together a good 5-pc Tact build, though I'm still looking for the right AR to go along with it).

But yeah, that's really all that's left, isn't it? Running content to get more DivTech to optimize your gear so that you can be a little stronger so that you can...run more of the exact same content...so on, and so on. I suppose that's the hook of any loot-focused game, but with no real "new" content coming (Legendaries don't count in my book), there's little reason to continue on.

I still play the UG mostly, as I find the level of challenge vs. reward to be just about perfect for me, I like that I have more granularity in choosing difficulty options (number of phases plus directives, vs. simply choosing Hard, Challenging or Legendary elsewhere), and Hunters dropping in unexpectedly are always fun.

I'm cutting back considerably on my playtime, but will probably stick around at least long enough to check out the new GEs. I don't really care so much about the gear on offer, as I have most everything I want...it's more just to check out how the new modifiers will change my approach to the same old content and maybe make it a little more interesting. Plus the GEs tend to draw some of my friends back (ok, only one really), so it's fun to run stuff with him and help him get gear that he still needs.

Unless these Shields offer a really compelling reason to stick around, I don't see my trend of declining daily playtime reversing itself. Especially since the whole premise is to give you "stuff" (?) in TD2, which at this point I'd say there's an equally good chance as to whether I will or will not buy it.

It's Division 2 from March 8th 2018 to here on out, my friend.

Which, considering we have basically the same team, could be "same meat, different gravy". Buyer beware.

I felt that way long before they announced TD2..

It started the week after 1.8 dropped and we went into GE events and cache events, then another GE event and so on..It was like every week was some event..

I was enjoying 1.8,but had to go and grind in old content for classified gear a week after it dropped..
Then it hit me..Why am I grinding classified gear to run the same stuff I've been running since I started the game? Is it so I can get into legendary to get better gear and stuff than I can't get out here?
No,because I'm just gonna get more of the same in Legendary is all..

If they would have expanded more on Survival, like opening up more of the map like they did for the DZ and LZ and taken some of the regularity out of it by moving loot spots around..That would have made a lot of difference for me..

Survival in my eyes is something they should have kept focus on,rather than forgetting about it..
I play survival because it's a fun game mode..I don't play it for the drops..

The rest of the game has become about drops..But drops you can get anywhere now rather than in certain spots you have to work your way up to..
About 3 weeks after 1.8 dropped is when I decided, I need a break because it just felt like grinding was pointless.

A lot and for the longest time I log in and think "Alright lets do some stuff".
I open the Megamap then realise I don't need anything.
    Then I log off.

The game is fun, but lacks multiple endgame loops and pursuits

    Help people.

Farm DZ9, collect classifieds and run down to DZ1 giving away the classifieds to whoever wants them, furst come first serve.

Or guard extractions and assist players jumped by rogues.

After > 1500 hours in TD1 I think I've sort of 'chewed all the flavor out of it' by now. It's been a good long run and I've had a lot of fun, certainly have gotten my moneys worth many times over. I have put the game down on probably 4 different occasions for months at a time for various reasons and have kept coming back. I reinstalled for 1.8 and played for a few weeks, uninstalled and now recently re-installed again. I'll probably play some survival and dz here and there however I'm not likely going to play much more TD1.

I've found the combat is mostly the same regardless of what end-game content is being played. Adding hunters in the u/g was a nice touch however the combat is still mostly the same, just a chance at a unique experience near the end. Survival is the one part of the game that has some real longevity for me though I have to take it in moderation as it can be a bit intense - plus I feel forced to play for the full ~1.5 hour session without a break (can't go to a safe house and go take care of an errand for example). It's like sitting down and having to eat a whole meal when all I want is a nibble or a snack. Also, I don't really play to grind for loot (it's not my thing) - it's mainly been just a fun combat experience that lets me use more than just weapons, plus the atmosphere.

Have to say another big reason I've put the game down (several times now) are the rpg designs. I like the shooter aspect of the game and also really like the fact that it's not just a plain shooter and has skills and equipment. What I don't like about it though are the implementations of the skills and equipment - it's waaay too far into a scifi realm for my liking and I really wish they would keep things at a sort of near future darpa level. Also, bullet sponges. Say what you like about how core they are to traditional rpg designs.. they're another reason I've put the game down on several occasions. Just don't enjoy them at all.

After a while of not finding anything that quite scratches that itch like TD does I reinstall and play for a bit. Seems to be a bit of a cycle that gets longer each time.

If you're looking for a reason to keep playing maybe try creating more characters (if you haven't already) and try survival?

I'm surprised pve only players are just now coming to this conclusion. There hasn't been much new content added for a very long time. And the classified gear is totally unnecessary unless you're in the DZ. I feel the end of D1 for me is when I get tired of the DZ. It's the only endgame. It's been like this since the beta. And I've been pleasantly surprised with how fun this week has been in the DZ after the update. So much more PvP and just overall better fights everywhere.

DZ has a nice place for pvp,but really,a full clip or two or three, into a guy while in each others face?
That's not something that is too exciting as far as pvp goes..
The concept was good with the rogue system and the whole idea of it being a dangerous place where anything goes, but the execution was terrible. it's like a wasted environment so people can chicken dance in the street.
Hopefully they pull it off in the next one and bring in some real pvp where you have to use the environment rather than it just being a decoration...
